Nah, probably not, but apparently after considering the withdrawal of the 1-cent coin the US treasury is also considering changes on the nickel, the 5 cent coin.
Much like the 1 cent coin, the actual cost for making a nickel exceeds its face value.
As of today, each nickel actually costs about 14 cents after all costs considered! That's an easy 3x. 🙃
Of course that number includes labor, production costs etc. The actual melt value is 5.9 cents, which is not a bad deal I guess. But remember, melting US coins for metal is illegal 🤫
For now the treasury isn't thinking to retire the nickel but to simply change its composition to cheaper materials.
I guess it would make sense if you are in the U.S to stack some before they change them. Worst case scenario, they will still be worth 5 cents a piece. But there's a good chance they gain a tiny bit of collector or melt value. Or maybe both.
Sounds like a good gamble with zero risk. I know I would keep some as a small experiment
Or maybe @pocketechange is up to something and the peeps stacking penises pennies are in for a wild ride ! 😄

No, I haven't spent a five-cents nickel in over a decade. Yes, I've been hoarding them. My guess is that they will go zinc. Today, metal melt values, for US Nickels, clad Quarters & Clad Dollars are: $0.0551, $0.0570, & $0.073. -Coinflation.com. Thanks for sharing, trumpman.

I love buffalo nickels 😍
Me too!!! I love the Buffalo Nickel!!!
Yes, in the US it is. Same law as Canada however I'd just travel over the border and melt down my Canadian coins. Like wise Americans in Washington State bring over their coins north to melt them down here. That's how its done. The wild card will be Pockete's Monetary reset take place before then.
What a silly and easy law to bypass 😂

Stacking nickels takes up WAY too much space. Not worth it.

Imagine stacking millions of usd like that. Would be hilarious 😄😄😄😄
They won't be around much longer, they are next on the chopping block. The US penny is gone and soon the nickel will be too. I have a huge stack of copper pennies made before 1982, there was such a huge problem with people taking them to Mexico to melt down they limited the number of pennies you could take over the border!
Nickels will be gone in a few years too, they just cost too much to produce!

I'd love to see some photos of that stack!
you've earned a few nickels out of this post. nice
Here 1 and 2 cents are getting disbanded and lot of supermarkets round to 5

Same here!
You know I'm onto something...lol... What I came up with is a Game Changer for sure... On the other side of the Reset, a 5 Cent Coin will buy One Pound of Copper... Same goes for 5 of our One Cent Coins made of Copper Coated Zinc... I did like what you wrote, "sounds like a good gamble with zero risk"... Those words also apply to my version of the Reset but 100 times better...
Reset is gonna make us gazillions 😄
Only if you're holding the right assets... It will be a Game Changer for sure...
I'd love to see someone with an actual stack. It would bring a new meaning to a boat load lol.

Due to the inflation, the cost of minting a coin has exceed the value of that coin :)
"Interesting take—nickels turning into mini assets! Do you think the melt value might ever justify holding them long-term, or is it just a fun hedge?"
I would also keep some, it is possible that their value will increase over time.
Indeed, it’s an interesting and strange post at the same time
The cost of making coins always surprises people, especially when it’s higher than their face value.
I am not surprised, but coins themselves are bulky and they can get heavy when you stack enough of them. It makes you consider space, but I don't think its a bad idea at all.
We'll pay again with cocoa or salt. Well, not with cocoa, it's expensive.
I also think that it can be a good investment to go with
But coins last forever (well, almost forever), so considering the life of a coin, that is cheap. I would say, change the design back to the Buffalo Nickels again! !LOL
