Would You Trade Your Freedom for Free Healthcare?

One prayerful point that people do not often add to their prayers is: May we never suffer the consequences of an action not committed by us.

There are many innocent people in prison who are being punished for acts they did not commit, simply because no one believed them when they said they were innocent.

I once heard a story about a guy who invited his girl for a sleepover. While they were having sex, the lady suddenly died. He was confused and did not know what to do, so he called her parents, but they did not believe his explanation. He was eventually sentenced to years in prison for a crime he claimed he did not commit. He became a victim of circumstance. Many people believed he had either harmed or killed the girl, while he maintained that he was innocent.

I have also heard stories of people being arrested and allegedly used as substitutes for criminals whose families were influential and wealthy. Imagine being an innocent person, going home from work, only to find yourself arrested, accused of a crime you know nothing about, and eventually facing a punishment meant for someone else.

There are so many stories like this, and when we go to prison, we will meet people who are in situations like these. No doubt, we have hardened criminals there, but we also have innocent people there. Is it okay to deny people basic medical care simply because they are in prison?

Moreover, they have gotten their punishment. Losing one's freedom can be the worst punishment ever. Most people do not value something until they lose it. People do not realize the importance of freedom: being able to go out anytime you like without anyone or anything stopping you.

Even if you are hungry, as long as you have the freedom to go out, you will see people who will help you.

But for prisoners, they do not have that. They rely on the food provided by the government, they do not have the freedom to go out, and to worsen it, some of the inmates are even violent and may bully the weaker ones. It can become a survival of the fittest environment.

Imagine being put in a place where you cannot simply walk away from someone who wants to harm you, with nowhere to run and no easy way to escape.

I understand where the pain is coming from when people complain about their taxes being used to feed prisoners, but that is better than the government looting it. That is one good service your money is being used for. If they do not use it for that, they might use it for something ridiculous or even share it among themselves.

So I say prisoners deserve the healthcare they are getting. And if you think it is unfair that you are paying for your own healthcare and theirs is being paid for, just commit a crime that will get you jailed and you can also start getting free medical care.
