With luxury comes trash.” This is a phrase my grandmother always used to say to me when she saw someone spoiling their children excessively, giving them everything they wanted with the simple excuse: “What I didn't have, my children will have.” However, the true meaning of my grandmother's popular saying is that the greater humanity's progress, the greater the pollution of the planet.

With technological advances and the relentless pursuit of progress, people are consuming wildly. And the more consumption, the greater the amount of waste generated, which ends up back in the environment. You only have to walk down the street to see the amount of waste around you. Even though waste is collected, much of it is not recycled, which means that it ends up accumulating in the soil, water or dissipating into the air.

The big problem today is that most waste is plastic, and it doesn't decompose completely. Instead, it turns into microplastics that enter the food chain of living beings, eventually returning to us humans. Whenever I go to the beach and see the sea “spitting out” garbage, plastic bags or packaging, I am reminded of the big problem we have on our hands.

These photos were taken on a beach near my town. I was looking for a picture from January 2nd, just after New Year's Eve, but I couldn't find it. This photo was a good portrayal of the pollution caused by human beings, who wish for a better year but don't take care of the planet. This was my contribution to the 24th #hivebrphotocontest, whose theme is “Pollution”. I hope you like the image!

Com o luxo vem o lixo." Essa é uma frase que minha avó sempre me dizia quando via alguém mimando excessivamente seus filhos, dando-lhes tudo o que desejavam com a simples desculpa: "O que eu não tive, meus filhos terão." No entanto, o verdadeiro significado desse ditado popular da minha avó é que, quanto maior o progresso da humanidade, maior é a poluição do planeta.

Com o avanço tecnológico e a busca incessante por progresso, as pessoas estão consumindo de forma desenfreada. E quanto mais consumo, maior é a quantidade de lixo gerada, que acaba retornando ao meio ambiente. Basta caminhar pela rua para perceber a quantidade de resíduos ao redor. Mesmo com a coleta de lixo, grande parte dele não é reaproveitada na reciclagem, o que faz com que acabe se acumulando no solo, nas águas ou se dissipando no ar.

O grande problema atualmente é que a maior parte do lixo é plástico, e ele não se decompõe completamente. Em vez disso, transforma-se em microplásticos que entram na cadeia alimentar dos seres vivos, retornando, eventualmente, para nós, seres humanos. Sempre que vou à praia e vejo o mar "cuspindo" lixo, sacolas plásticas ou embalagens, lembro-me do grande problema que temos em nossas mãos.

Essas fotos foram tiradas em uma praia próxima à minha cidade. Estava procurando uma imagem do dia 2 de janeiro, logo após a virada do ano, mas não a encontrei. Essa foto retratava bem a poluição causada pelo ser humano, que deseja um ano melhor, mas não cuida do planeta. Esta foi minha contribuição para o 24º #hivebrphotocontest, cujo tema é "Poluição".
