The Last Quarter - Silver 2021 Design

This is (in my opinion) the last US quarter design to ever be minted. A design that began in 1932, Washington's face with a large bust, facing left with the mint mark behind the ribbon in his hair.

The letters LIBERTY in all caps over his head.

State Quarters

Then in 1999 the first modification came with the State Quarters, then DC and Territory Quarters, then in 2010 began the "America the Beautiful" Quarters until 2021.

The new obverse from 1999 - 2021 was this heavily text laden version of the quarter. Washington still looked to the left, but the word LIBERTY was replaced with UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and LIBERTY was placed on Washington's left. On his right (behind him) is IN GOD WE TRUST and the mint mark squished beneath it. The words QUARTER DOLLAR were added to the bottom to signify the coin's face value.

Essentially, all of the required obverse and reverse text were crammed onto the obverse of the coin. This made for a very busy design, in my opinion. The bust was made smaller to accommodate for all the words.

Retro Quarter

But then in 2021 a wonderful thing happened. The quarter obverse went BACK to it's original 1932 design! I was hopeful that this would become the standard obverse again, eliminating all the extra text, restoring the large bust and simple design.

I made sure to pick up a silver proof of this coin, since after 22 years of minting the modified obverse quarters, I was excited to see the "retro" design.

Horror!

Then came the 2022 quarter, with it's newly designed obverse. Instead of shrinking the bust, it was made larger. Washington turned his back on the phrase "IN GOD WE TRUST" which was squished to fit around the enlarged bust. The date was moved from the bottom to under Washington's (double) chin and the mint mark was placed under the date.

LIBERTY in all caps is still at the top, but Washington's head is so large it obscures the bottom of the letters B and E and R. Washington was given a frown face and a very enlarged neck. It's a horrifying design, one we will have to tollerate at least until 2025 while the "American Women" Quarter program completes it's run. Will there be a new redesign again in 2025? Is this the new quarter from now on? I sure hope not.

Hiddeous.

The Socialist's Quarter

It is my opinion that the only true "Washington Quarter" has the obverse of the original 1932 design. These variations are functional, but do not have the same dignity as the original.

The newest design is completely unnecessary and ugly. The hairlines are messy, extra wrinkles are added around the eye. The nose looks like it's sneering. The hair looks slicked back as if he were a gangsta. Just.... bad. In my opinion.

I cannot help think that this redesign has certain subconscious messaging, besides the obvious "get behind me..." message concerning the deity invoking motto. Given the unfavorable REWRITE concerning the founding fathers, I think Washington is being portrayed "right wing" which is why he is now facing right. Partially obscuring LIBERTY is a subtle message of the giving up just a little liberty for the good of the nation. The larger bust invokes a large authoritarian state, that WASHINGTON (DC) rules over all 50 states in a hierarchical power structure.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but to me this coin does not look patriotic or look as if it were designed by anyone impressed with the history of this nation. This portrayal of Washington looks like a socialist designed it.

But what do I know, all I can do is give my opinion.

The Last Quarter, 2021

The circulating version of this coin is still found in our change today, along with all pre-1999 quarters. While many quarters found in circulation are 1965 (because so many were minted to replace pre-1964 silver quarters) sometimes these 2021 quarters show up also.

It's one last reminder of the original 1932 design, with Washington portrait with waivy groomed hair, gentle eyes, slightly upturned mouth and large dignified nose. The motto is evenly spaced and LIBERTY is just touching the top of his head, not obscured by it.

I am happy they brought this original design back for one final run before retiring it. 1932 - 1964, 1965-1999, 2021.

Teach Your Children Liberty from Sin

We encourage parents to teach their children principles of Godliness, beginning with the Word and an understanding who God is and what His Son has done to form a relationship with us.

No one can lay a foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If anyone builds on this foundation using gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or straw, his workmanship will be evident, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will prove the quality of each man’s work. 1 Corinthians 3:11-13

Teach Your children Liberty from Tyranny

Second to this is the principle of self-determination and freedom, lest we loose the ability to teach our children the first principle in future generations.

Our children read the Tuttle Twin books, specifically to learn libertarian principles, which most people learn later in life. These books are useful for our family, and yours, to teach children concepts that seem complicated, but are made simple in these books. I am an affiliate for Libertas Publishing, your purchase will help our family grow financially.

Bank Bailout Special!

It's happening, folks. The banks are going under! To educate our children about what is going on, there is a "Bank Bailout Book Bonanza" going on with the Tuttle Twins! Use coupon code FORTY for 40% off your purchase! Check out the books here.

Interesting write up about the quarter. We use US money here, but I haven't noticed anything unusual with any of them. Although now that you've pointed it out, I'll have to keep an eye out for all of it!

I actually like seeing George facing the opposite direction... I've been holding onto every one I find in their own special container... To me, it means we're looking back at our mistakes... Notice that the Silver Versions contain 1/5 ounce of Silver, the weight of which I want for our New $2 Silver Coins... To me, these Quarter Dollars are a clue or a sign of what's to come... This year, all 5 of the Quarter Dollar Coins say 25 Cents...
