I Saw I Came I Ate - Xin Peng Chinese Restaurant - A Cozy Place For A Simple Dinner

Hello all, hope all of you are doing fine as we start off a new week. In today's sharing, I would like to share a place that is courtesy of @silent.nightowl. He brought me here once and I liked how the food tasted and brought my wife here for dinner to let her try. I think it is important to be able to find simple places in the neighbourhood to have dinner that is both affordable and taste great.

The Place

This is a small and cozy shop that is serve really authentic Chinese food

Here's how the place looks like from the inside:

Not a huge shop but during peak hours, there will be a crowd. However, the crowd clears rather quickly so not to worry. The food is served rather quickly as well so waiting times will be minimal. There are ample carpark nearby and easily accessed.

Now let's get right on the food.

The Food

As usual, we are famished and order a mixture of food which included staples and soup:

• Sauerkraut Fish
• Spicy Fried Cabbage
• BBQ Straw Mushrooms
• Grilled Lamb Skewers

And here is the photo of the spread of food that we've ordered.

Everything was served no longer than 15 minutes including the BBQ ones. And to my surprise, as I was telling @silent.nightowl that I am at the restaurant, he decided to make a special guest appearance, helping us to finish all the food.

Sauerkraut Fish

One of my favourite Chinese dish and typically if this dish is good, the rest of the dishes should be of certain standard. I dare say this dish is made to goodness, a well balanced broth that able to bring out the freshness of the fish and at the same time, give some bite to the vegetables. In this particular version that is served here, there is also glass noodles within it which will be able to substantiate the rice if we are still feeling hungry. The fish use here is great and fresh. There is so much fish that makes this dish so value for money.

Spicy Fried Cabbage

Another dish that looked seemingly simple to do but needs alot of skill to do right. The cabbage must capture the spicyness of the chilli and sauces used to fry it but still retain its crunchiness. If not done well, either it is crunch but taste bland, or it becomes soggy even when having the flavours.

BBQ Straw Mushroom

This is a unique way of BBQ. It is not exactly crunchy like most BBQ, but it is done with some slight glazed on the surface and then given spicy sauce which is really nice to munch on. This dish definitely gave me a big surprise as I have never tasted something like this before.

Grilled Lamb Skewers

The final item to showcase for today. While it looked like just 3 skewers, this dish is totally awesome and 3 is just enough to satisfy our craving. The spices that were sprinkled on the meat were just so good and there is no mutton smell which makes this a nice one to eat on. Two for me and one for my wife.

Overall:
Authentic food that is being served here. The dishes are well cooked and used really fresh ingredients. While the dishes looked easy to prepare, it test the skill of the chef to do it well and make it nice for us to enjoy. Nothing fanciful, just simple dinner and nice place to catch up.
