Hello everyone, my beautiful hive naija people, it's another beautiful weekend and we are so happy to have you here once again. Itโs nice to get everyone together every weekend to talk about random things and just have fun.
As we all know, the Hive Naija Weekend Engagement is focused on promoting the togetherness of the Nigeria brethren through engagement and it's also now concerned of the well being of each and everyone who is part of the engagement. This account was opened to make the engagement more personal and officia. You can find the INTRODUCTION POST to read more about the purpose and aim of this new account and also do well to follow the account so as to know when a post is made.
A long time ago, I thought, I shared and I asked "Why don't we chat on hive every Weekend?"
And you all said... YES
"Well, we won't be the first as there are some weekend engagement trends already on Hive! But this would be THE NIGERIAN VERSION!"
The last time, the topic was โWE ARE BACK"
We had over 600+ comments in our last weekend engagement. Itโs a good start, and we hope it gets better from here. Letโs see if we can still make 1000 comments possible this weekend, shall we? ๐. It has always been so nice seeing people who dedicate their time to engaging and sharing their thoughts and ideas with us, I want to appreciate you all for the consistency, quality engagement and your efforts, let's keep them coming. Special thanks to everyone who makes this hang out possible.
I will drop a topic every Friday (Today's topic is below), share your thoughts on the matter, reply to someone else opinion, and interrogate the opinion if you like. Keep the discussion on. If you don't have anything to say about the topic. Just reply to someone else's comment.
Do all these in the comment section, as that is where it all goes down.
This week's engagement starts immediately after you see this post and ends on Sunday at 11:59 pm.
Prizes are distributed to the winners after considering their interactions and also their contributions to the topic. And we have made some little changes and improvements in the prizes too. This week's prizes;
Special prize to our top engager that is the person with more meaningful responses to others comment even if he or she didnโt make a personal comment) gets 5 hive besides the normal prize. This is to encourage meaningful discussion.
1st prize - 5 hive
2nd Prize - 4 Hive
3rd Prize - 3 Hive
4th Prize - 2 HIVE
5th Prize - 1 Hive
Prizes courtesy of:
@Samostically and special thanks to our curators.
Now to our discussion for this weekend! We will be discussing about โbooksโ. As we all know, knowledge is power, so we want to know what you are reading to improve your knowledge about different things. Any book (even the Bible or Koran).
***Remember, the aim of the hangout is to bring Nigerians together so make sure you have this in mind when responding to the questions. And feel free to add even more to it if you have any.
In the spirit of implementing some suggestions, from previous weeks, our winner will choose the topic for discussion and will also be the one to choose the winners. All you have to do is suggest the topic during the week and also the winners in the comment and tag @hopestylist to it. To our topic choosers, they will receive 10% of the hangout post they suggested the topics. (We didnโt get any suggestions this week).
Oh yes before I forget, the winners will be chosen based on the number of new members they invite to join the engagement. You know what you benefit when you engage so why not let others know about it. In fact I will advise you look beyond the prize and look more to doing something different even for your Naija brethren by showing them the way here.
There are no further rules, please banter as you like, speak any Nigerian language (Igbo, Yoruba, pidgin, Efik), anything, as long as someone else can understand.

I never knew there was an initiative like this to interact with one another, this is cool ๐
At the moment I am reading a book titled Atomic Habits by James Clear; the book was recommended in my church. Though I have not gone far in reading, so far from what I have read, I would say it's an interesting read. The book talks about the power of small habits, which, when practiced consistently, would make a great impact on our lives. At first, when we start doing something, it does seem like there's no change, but if we continue consistently, those small things accumulate into remarkable results over time. And the author gave a lot of relatable examples. I think the book is a must-read for those who want to develop or maintain a healthy habit.
@lecia89 @beckyroyal @uniquezee come share with us what you are reading
Atomic Habits... It's a good read....
We Nigerians have the habit of acquiring knowledge and doing nothing with it.
I know doctors who decided to marry without respect to blood group... Now all their kids are Sickle cell patients.
We get mouth, we get stuff for head, but na to use am do something be the problem...
What is my point?
Maybe we should all read atomic habits 10 times until we start to do what it says...
PS: if I pick the book, I will likely be reading it for a second time...
Lol ๐
Am also guilty of acquiring knowledge and not making use of it, sometimes I also wonder why I take different courses online ๐
About the doctors that got married without the respect of genotype even after knowing the consequences are nothing but wicked and evil. Why would a sane person do that to their innocent child, that's just so sad ๐ข

I think reading the book 10 times will not change the fact that what we all need is to put into practice any knowledge we acquire ...because I have seen people brag I have read this and that but if you look at them you will see that their lifestyle aren't reflecting any of the knowledge they have

This Doctor's title should be revoked, he has willfully committed evil against humanity...if I'm number one citizen he for pay for this wickedness๐

Guyyy! This is so real. ๐
Itโs not funny but the way you said it is.
As you have rightly said, we Nigerians have a lot of knowledge but we donโt put them into good use and thatโs really sad and a great reason why we are still a developing country.
Iโm very much in that category and I hope to keep doing better.

It is easy to gather resources to learn but now creating the time to kick start or utilizing what one has learnt would be one the issue. Probably the economic factor plays a vital role too
I totally understand ๐

The only reason I read here in school is because I have accountability partners who read consistently. If you're struggling with consistency in anything, like reading, you need to get yourself an accountability friend who loves reading. That way, they can motivate you. But above all, you must also be intentional if not it's just you trying to play more

Hmm. You have made a brilliant point. The economy factor is a good one to not overlook.

So currently I have been broke to tears. Infact few days ago, I was so financial frustrated that I was pacing up and down my room and muttering to myself in tears that I cannot be broke, I refuse to be broke I said as I burst out crying. I had to ask myself why I am so broke after all these years and I canโt even account for what I did with myself and my money. At this age I am still lacking. So out of frustration and tired of the statusquo, I remembered this book that I read last year that really motivated me financially and helped me start planning my finances which I obviously stopped half way else I wouldnโt have been in this financial rut again.
Sometimes we start things with so much zeal and then leave them half way and thatโs why we have a relapse. Well, tired of being broke again, I went and picked up this book to read. I started reading it three days ago and I cried so much the first night and two nights ago, as I saw the things I was supposed to do that I ignored and now itโs been one year after and I am still in the same financial circle and Wondering where I got it wrong. Just last night I had read it again and still reading it and so have given my self a three years target to stick to the principles I am learning from this book no matter how bad it may seem and let me see what will come out of it.
I am tired of being broke and one of the ways to start is to learn from people who have been broke before but overcame poverty.
@goldenproject @chefqueen @empressjay @treasuree @winanda @luchyl @talktofaith which book are you currently reading, share with us and engage ๐ค
Chai ...my baby cannot be broke naw..wetin be this

Chaied! Iโm also in this boat. Well, not completely broke now and thatโs all thanks to this book I read when I was nearly 13 years old. Even before I read this book, I was already saving back then so it only encouraged me to do it more and often.
I hope you stick to the principles this time. I think it was seven principles of money or how many that time. Itโs been a long time sha.
Good for you sis, knowledge gotten early and applied makes a whole lot of difference

What have you recently read. Tell us the title and why you read that book
As you can see above, The power of a praying wife is a book I read long time ago but started reading it again recently..
You may ask why...
The reason is simply because , I have heard and witnessed a lot of challenges facing marriages nowadays and I have come to understand that prayers , wisdom, patience, and our effort goes a long way to help marriages but the ultimate is prayers...so I believe!
I have heard it a lot of time that women holds their home, and I know that it takes a praying wife to do better in handling a godly home.
This books reminds me that a better way to truly love my husband is by lifting him up in prayers on a consistent basis . It's a priceless gift that helps him experience God's blessings and grace. When women prays, God hears...so instead of lingering those misunderstanding , I have learned to pray for him over that habit I doesn't like and wants to experience change
There are lots of practical exercises and assignment concerning spouses in this book that makes it quite interesting.
@merit.ahama @babygirl888 which book are you reading currently ?
@ginika there is an ongoing weekly hive naija hangout ....come and share with your fellow naija peeps and have fun at the same time , learning from each other .

I read this book for the first time before I got married and it gave me different ideas on prayer and about two years ago I read it again and it felt like I had never read the book before. The book is so powerful, that it teaches you that even the smallest and silliest thing you think isn't important, you can still pray about it and God will definitely answer you
My dear...each time I pick it up again...it feels new to my mind ..
Indeed a book worthy to recommend for about to marry ladies

Don't drop school book oo
Lol
Lol.
Thats the only book I have read na.
It's been a while I read a book cos of my engagements but I'm so sure about one book I do read which is the Bible ๐ and thanks for giving the privilege to include it in the options ๐ซถโบ๏ธ
I remember a part of the scripture that I read that talks about a great king who was previously tagged as a bastard, son of a prostitute and was chased out of the family. He mixed with the ordinary men and continued leading them (based on the fact that he has the traits of a leader) of which after a while, his family who chased him out came to him for help in winning the battle of the ammonites so they made him King. Out of anxiety, the King promised God to sacrifice the first thing that comes his way after having victory over the battle.
Fortunately he won the battle while Unfortunately, his only beloved daughter came running towards him with the mind to congratulate and welcome her lovely dad and king back to the palace after winning a mighty terrifying war.
However, he sacrificed the daughter but with a great saddened heart because it's a promise he made.
LESSONS TO LEARN: Never make promises because you need something so badly because after getting it at your disposal, you tend to see the heaviness in what you promised to give back but sorry to say that there might be no means for turning back.
Also, never make promises when you're happy too cos those kind of promises would end up being the ones outside your capacity.
ALTERNATE LESSONS:
Never judge your future success with your background or your present situation. You can always become great as long as you're not relenting or giving up on your dreams and aims.
Scriptural reference: Judges 11
Main character of Study: Jephthah
Self Generated Title: A Promise like Sore
@hamokstitches @vickoly do you have any book you're reading currently or that you have read before and would love to share? I just shared mine ๐
When I read that story in the Bible I canโt help but always wonder what Jephthah was actually thinking when he made that vow. Like what was he thinking that would come out of his house first. Maybe he had a good espouse with his hairs and cattleโs and they usually come out to welcome him or maybe he had a dog but I hav not still wrapped my head around that vow.
Well itโs good he kept his promise and also Well, it was good too that his daughter agreed to be sacrificed becos me like this, japa is my nameโฆlike for why?๐
Yeahhh I do think about it too and it's actually a mystery but probably he thought it might be one of his slaves or one of his animals like you mentioned.
And pls spare my mouth with this thick laugh on seeing your japa part๐คฃ That's not fair now ๐ You gat be an understanding daughter

Hmmmm
That's great lesson in this particular scripture about our practical life
Gracias
It really is ... Cos so many of us are now taking promises with levity hands and just making them like we call our names
This is a Great one but me ,I don't have any other book I'm reading at this point of life aside from my departmental courses until I'm done with my forthcoming professional exams
I wish you the best in your upcoming professional exams
Hopefully u will make an entry after ur exams ?
Surely I will ...thank you so much
Success in your exams
