Spaghetti ala Pinoy - a red pasta that we often cook to celebrate milestones

Whoah! Another day, another dish to share with you, foodies, hivers! What’s up?

Last blog, I shared with you one special dish that we prepared for our wedding anniversary - valenciana. Guess what? That’s not all! We also cooked pasta as it is a traditional belief that noodles represent long life. So pasta or pancit is often part of any celebratory moments here in my country.

I think it is safe to assume that everyone here knows what spaghetti is. It’s the most common pasta and often bought in McDonalds or any other restaurants. Nonetheless, I will be sharing our family recipe. My mom is the best cook when it comes to spaghetti. Since I was a child, I have always loved her spaghetti. Our neighbors love it, too. (We like sharing food with our neighbors hehe).

And let the fun begin.

What we need
Spaghetti noodles
Hotdog
Margarine
Spaghetti sauce (sweet-style)
Corned beef in a can
Cheese
Evaporated milk
Tomato ketchup

How to cook

Boil the noodles

  1. Fill a stockpot with water until it boils.
  2. Once boiling, add the spaghetti noodles and cook accordingly, stir it occasionally to prevent sticking.
  3. When the noodles are cooked, drain the water and transfer the noodles to a separate bowl or container. Set aside.

Prepare the sauce

  1. In a separate pan, melt margarine (this will serve as your cooking oil).
  2. Saute the garlic and chopped onions until fragrant and translucent.
  3. Add the sliced hotdogs and corned beef. Cook for a few minutes until lightly browned.
  4. Pour in the tomato ketchup and spaghetti sauce. Stir to combine well.
  5. Add the evaporated milk and continue mixing until the sauce is smooth and creamy.
  6. Stir in the grated cheese and a pinch of salt, or season to taste with your preferred spices. Mix thoroughly.
  7. Let the sauce simmer for a few minutes until everything is well blended and heated through.

Combine and serve

Pour the cooked sauce over the noodles and mix until evenly coated.
Serve hot. Enjoy!

And just like that, we now have our red pasta. Oh, how fun it is to eat with your loved ones.
I love my plate of spaghetti with lots of cheese. My daughter (just like the other kids) love hotdogs. What about you? How would you like to eat your spaghetti?

You're making me crave for it even more huhu. That looks really good. It's been quite a while since I last had spaghetti. Wala na yong resto na binibilhan ko nitoo. I wish I can just cook nalang. Kasi kakatamad ,lol. And you put milk in your spag? Though its evap, mom used condensed milk naman. She likes it sweet and sour ba.
