Like I used to always said that no matter the kind of business you're investing in, it is very important to have basic knowledge about to help you navigate through the challenges.

It's not a news again that poultry farm business is one of the most lucrative business out there but many people distance themselves from this business due to early obstacles and that is because of the common mistakes made by farmer which they don't pay attention or have little or no knowledge about.

As a poultry farmer, it is very important to give close attention and care to day old chicks right from the start to have an easy and successful journey through brooding and raising them to maturity. But to be able to achieve that, below are some of the common mistakes made by the farmers that you need to pay close attention to.

A lots of poultry farmers usually lost high numbers of day old chicks (DOC) due to some of these mistakes

Unable To Provide Warm Environment To The Birds.

One of the most important thing that day old chicks needs upon arrival is to put them in a warm environment or probably heat up the brooder, though you have to consider the situation of weather before heating up the brooder especially when the weather is hot which may be to much to bare for the birds.

Providing Birds With Glucose, Vitamin And Feed.

One of the important things you must have prepared for the birds is by providing them with water containing glucose and water to help them beat down the stress them must have went through before arriving at the brooder and will also aids easy digestion. And moreso, supplying them with feed is the next step of action after an hour of drinking water that contains glucose and vitamin. And moreso, giving your birds glucose and vitamin during brooding stage helps in reducing mortality rate.

Avoid Using Bigger Feeders

One the biggest mistake poultry farmers make upon day old chicks arrival is the using of bigger feeders which may be stressful or not easy for the birds to properly have access to the feed.

So therefore, it very important to use the most accessible feeders for day old chicks and that's why tray feeders is always encourage for the first three days or first week of the birds before switching to another preferable feeders that match their growth and development.

Avoid Feed With Big Particles.

Another mistake poultry farmers make upon the arrival of day old chicks is providing them with feed that has big particles or probably finisher feed which could be so stressful for the birds to swallow or may even choke birds to death.

In lieu of this, pre starter or starter feeds are always advisable for day old chicks since it contains tiny particles which will be easy to pick and digest for the birds.

Avoid Too Much Heat In The Brooder

Puting birds in a very hot environment could lead to dehydration and constipation. And like I said earlier, it is very important to consider the weather of your area to know the suitable temperature to be given to the birds.
