What a gift it would be... Part 9

(Edited)

Day-9 of me doing the Christmas silver wish list thingie initiative, first started by @silverd510. As a quick reminder, the goal is to post for 12 consecutive days, 12 silver pieces that I would love to be gifted for Christmas.

Moving on...

So, as you know I love animal themed coins and today's piece falls under this category!

As a kid I used to be fascinated by trilobites..Dunno why :( And I always wished I could find a fossil, or even a live one 😂 Yeah, the latter isn't happening anytime soon, since they are extinct for about 250 million years now 😅 Oh well, maybe one day I get lucky enough to witness a horseshoe crab, the closest thing still alive when it comes to appearances. Yes I know, technically they are not related. They just look similar!

So, naturally I just fell in love when I first saw somewhere online this beautiful designed trilobite coin, part of a series called "evolution of life":

The hugely popular first issue of the "Evolution of Life" series "Ammonite" raised high expectations and anticipation for its successor. The coin now presents the Ordovician period with a stunning, partially excavated trilobite, which is based on a real, 470-million-year-old fossil found near St. Petersburg, Russia. source

Video:

Damn, what a beauty!

The mintage on this 2016 piece is really low, just 999 coins. In case you wonder, the other side features the Coat of Arms of Mongolia with a face value of "500 Togrog", the official currency of the country!

The cheapest buy now I could find on eBay was for about 400 USD so I guess I am not the only one with a trilobite fetish 😅😂

Thankfully, there's a similar coin, almost as cool, issued by Niue Islands under what is probably a knock of series with almost an identical name...Evolution of earth, lmao:

This one starts from 200$ on eBay 😅Looks like silver trilobites are highly sought after 😂

So yeah, if you are in the mood of buying me an expensive Christmas gift I wouldn't mind any of the two, lel!

Ok friends, that's it for today. See you tomorrow with yet another amazing silver piece I am only getting in my dreams. Only 3 more left!

Here's a list of my previous wish lists items in case you missed them:

That sure is a nice chunk of silver right there. And it's pretty crazy how people value these coins a lot higher than just the silver content.

Hello, greetings from the state of Aragua, here in Venezuela.

The first thing that caught my attention when I saw your publication was the figures on the coins.

In addition to showing coins, you are also showing giving us information regarding the extinction of those living beings.

It also occurred to me to think when a woman for a man has a phobia of certain insects because let me tell you that here in Venezuela there is another type of culture and there is a certain fear for those of us who live in the city regarding that world of living forms. . I can't imagine, for example, my wife with one of those coins since she is terrified of living beings that look like those that are there on the coins.

But nevertheless, I see that the designs with that type of relief are very beautiful, which makes whatever is there on that coin seem to be alive in one way or another, and furthermore, they are already like relics due to their high value in terms of to money, is what I could understand.

I greet you from a distance and I really enjoyed reading and seeing your post

trilobites were crustaceans so they are closer to the "acceptable bugs" by women, such as crabs and shrimps lol people love crustaceans =P

Pretty cool, it actually looks like a fossil of it. Come visit me during our summer and you’ll see plenty of horseshoe crabs on the beach in the early morning.

I never saw any fossils in real life until last week at the flea market when there was a guy with a stand full of different kinds of fossils. Later I went to an auction site and saw many of them. I can imagine that you love this piece, it's a good one!

Thanks for sharing! Out of tips today, but there's always tomorrow :)

that trilobite coin is seriously stunning - the detail on the partially excavated fossil is incredible. I can see why it ignited your childhood curiosity and continues to spark your imagination. The horseshoe crab comparison is spot-on, and who knows, maybe one day we'll discover a time-traveling trilobite (fingers crossed!). Both coins you picked are beauties, and even though they're a bit pricey, they're definitely worthy of a wish list spot.

Fossil coins are very cool. Between the two, the $400 seems more realistic.

It's a beauty but I still think it's a bit too expensive. I guess being the first edition means alot.
