KUNST TECHNIK LEHRE

What's up plebs?

My good ol' pal @bitcoinman has been crying about the lack of German silver in my posts last month so I figured to grant his wish today...
I live to please my fans so I return with yet another commemorative silver coin from the country!

Today's piece stands out to what we usually see as it is a bit more on the artistic side...

Messenger_creation_ddc40217-e22f-47f8-898b-82cfafa01fc3.jpeg

...and dare I say... It's also cuter? I mean.. just look at that cute little eagle on the other side:

Nothing like the angry chickens eagles we usually see!

The reason why, is made clear in the reverse side with the cute logo thing and the text

Bauhaus Dessau

The Bauhaus is a school of architecture, art and design that was founded in 1919 by the German architect Walter Gropius:

The Staatliches Bauhaus (German for 'building house'), was a German art school operational from 1919 to 1933 that combined crafts and the fine arts. The school became famous for its approach to design, which attempted to unify individual artistic vision with the principles of mass production and emphasis on function. Along with the doctrine of functionalism, the Bauhaus initiated the conceptual understanding of architecture and design. source

Feel free to visit the link above if you'd like to learn more about the history of the school. I don't have much interest on arts and shit but I must say I really like the design of the coin. My photos didn't come out as good as they usually do and they just don't do it enough justice!

The coin was issued in 2004 with a denomination of 10 euro as visible on the obverse. You may have also noticed the 12 stars on the same side, representing the 12 gold stars of the EU flag.

Having covered both sides, let's move on to the engraved edge

Messenger_creation_6f65bc9c-8457-4e1f-aa40-c9cb2769c652.jpeg

It reads

KUNST TECHNIK LEHRE

Now, the literal translation of this is:

KUNST: Art
TECHNIK: Technique
LEHRE: Apprenticeship or Instruction

And according to google Gemini, it directly aligns with the philosophy of the Bauhaus, which emphasized on "combining artistic expression (Kunst) with technical skills (Technik) through a structured learning environment (Lehre)."

Ok let's talk silver now. This is a modern commemorative piece from Germany which means it has a recipe that is much more generous than the old ones I usually showcase.

Specifically, 18 g of 0.925 purity. That's 16.65 of pure silver or about half an oz. Niceeeeee!

Here are some more quick stats from Numista for anyone that might care

Issuer: Federal Republic of Germany
Period: Federal Republic (1949-date)
Type: Non-circulating coin
Year: 2004
Value: 10 Euros (10 EUR)
Currency: Euro (2002-date)
Composition: Silver (.925)
Weight: 18 g
Diameter: 32.50 mm
Thickness: 2.62 mm
Shape: Round
Technique: Milled
Orientation: Medal alignment ↑↑

And this my fellow plebs concludes today's post. Although I am not much of a fan of the arts and shit I really like this coin. Definitely one of my favorites from Germany :)

Some nice Bauhaus silver! That eagle looks like it's been better fed than the usual ones. That's a nice coin and sterling silver ain't too shabby!

Thanks for the HSBI! You can never have too many!

my inlaws...when I moved left many things there, I went in their attic in my last visit only found plates tons of boxes with our plates and cups that we left there, but my album with many coins and boxes with some precious metal weren't there. My wife thinks that it is too messy and we will find it...but I am pessimistic now hehe. At least I found my wedding album lol

Germans do love their long compound words! Mark Twain ranted about the "awful German language" but I find it delightfully blunt and practical, at least where vocabulary is concerned. Now the grammar--I have to agree with Twain there. The grammar is a pain for a native English speaker like me. Der, den, die, das, dem... !BBH

I'm more familiar of Bauhaus, the Gothic rock band out of England in the late 1970s.

One of these days I'll do some Three tune Tuesday post, and I don't think this band ever had a silver coin minted after them. Pity.

It's an interesting coin. I think it's pretty unique because the eagle on the back tends to be the only thing there. It seems like this coin includes other details.
