5 Euro - 100 Years of Football (Austria, 2004)

Time to check out another silver piece from the stack!

I have been posting mostly Deutche marks so let's see something different this time.

How about a silver euro coin that comes in its very own booklet thingie, commemorating the 100 years of football? And by football I mean soccer you silly Americans !

Lots of informative blah blah, too bad I don't speak German

Ok, no need to know German to understand a small part of the back. It's an 8 gram coin, made of 0.800 silver. Dang, me genious!

Ok, some close ups of the actual coin:

The reverse side depicts a goal scored by a striker, accompanied by the text 100 JAHRE FUSSBALL for 100 YEARS OF FOOTBALL and 2004 which is the minting date

On the obverse we have the face value which is 5 euros and the nine coats of arms of the Austrian provinces. There is also the inscription "REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH" for Republic of Austria. Overall, this side is heavily inspired by the old Austrian 50 schilling coins.

I am not a big fan of football so it's a meh coin for me. But I got it as a gift in a recent silver purchase so I can't complain. :)

Let's see how silver doing today:

So, with a pure silver weight of 6.4 grams this little baby has a melting value of about 5.1$. Ha! Quite close to the face value.

I guess I could get double that if I was trying to sell it since it comes in a nice booklet thingie. Oh well, I guess I'll hide it in the crypt with the rest of the stack :)
