1 ounce of gold

I paid a visit today to my super secret crypt where I store the majority of my gold & silver.

Now, that's a place that is super secure that even myself have a hard time accessing, which makes it as safe as it can get when it comes to the safety of my treasures.

But it's also quite a nuisance, so I only go there once a month at best.

Anyways, I had a look at my golden pieces and figured they are about 0.4 kg in total weight, less in pure weight though, since most are 18k (75% purity). Unlike my silver which I have been stacking as diligently as I can over the last years, these treasures are mostly inherited family hair looms or gifts.

And then I wondered...Assuming all the gold was divided equally amongst the human population, how many would each person get? How would my small gold stack fair in that scenario?

Well, finding an answer was easy. Let's start with the basics, how much gold is out there:

About 244,000 metric tons of gold has been discovered to date (187,000 metric tons historically produced plus current underground reserves of 57,000 metric tons). Most of that gold has come from just three countries: China, Australia, and South Africa. The United States ranked fourth in gold production in 2016. source

Now, I am sure a good chunk of it is "locked", like for example in electronics where recovery can be a real bitch. But taking that number at face value, we have 244.000.000 kg of gold. Divided by 8 billion people that gives us

0.0305 kg per person

Or about an ounce

Or a gold eagle

Definitely there's not really much out there, if everyone decided to go and buy some.

So yeah, I guess if you manage to stack one, just one oz of gold you are far far ahead compared to the average Joe. After all, most of it is locked by National banks and rich mofos. I also hear various countries like china, Poland and Russia are buying it like crazy these days...

In case you wonder, one ounce of gold is worth $2,040.64 as we speak. But hurry, doubt these prices will last for long. I hear a new wave of inflation is coming soon thanks to the Suez canal crisis 🎉🎉🎉

The number of container ships transiting through the Red Sea towards the Suez Canal tumbled 90 per cent year-on-year through the first week of January, as attacks from Yemeni Houthi rebels continue to disrupt one of the world's busiest trade routes.

So, tdlr. If all the gold ever mined was to be equally distributed amongst all humans, everyone would get about an oz.

Do you have one?

I mentally began to weigh my wife's jewelry :) I think we have 1 ounce of gold. Or rather, this is her gold. I once had several gold coins of the Russian Empire, I remember that I sold them for 600 dollars each (in 2011) and bought shares of some company.

How did the company go ? 😅

Too bad, gold would be better. But the best thing would be for me to buy 2000 bitcoins with this money. And I planned to do this in 2011 :)

I also want to buy 2000 BTC with $600, but no one wants to sell them to me...

In 2011, I allocated several thousand dollars to buy Bitcoin. But I couldn't enter the trade; The price of Bitcoin fell dramatically after the collapse of MtGox (below $1). I thought then that this asset was finished.

I remember those times. A lot of uncertainty...

At the time, I was trading intraday stocks and intraday futures. Such a strong drop in Bitcoin really scared me.

I will only sell my gold if it is a matter of life and death. Otherwise, I'm its guardian until I pass it to the next generation.

It's a beautiful metal! I also own about 600g, in .9999 or .99999 bullion coins. And of course, I love the ones from Canadian Mint, which are the purest ones you can get, and the cool designs of the Kangaroos from Perth Mint.

Having gold is a good thing. They say it’s the metal of kings. Too bad you’re a queen….🤣 only joking. That’s a quality amount of gold to have but pure gold is much easier to sell if you need to sell. Jewelry you always get about 80% of its true value back.

Good thing I have some gold coins stashed, I'd hate to have to yank out any of the three gold crowns my Dentist, Dr. Yank'em had so carefully put in my mouth. 😁

I don't have an ounce of gold. I have considered it because I only invest a bit into the gold mining company stocks or the ETFs.
