Memorable pictures
Ever been forced to take pictures?
This was the best so far of a journey I embarked on to Lagos in October last year. It was for our annual youth program which is held yearly and last year was the first I attended thanks to this beautiful big sister of mine, who wouldn't let me rest and made sure I didn't miss out on last year's program.
My big sister was in the choir, and wanted me to join the rehearsals in preparation for the program so I would be allowed to get a free ride to Lagos. At first, I was so reluctant, not because I couldn't sing, but because I was going to be in the midst of unknown faces that I barely even knew. Truth be told, sometimes i act like an introvert, especially when those around form a click among themselves, i wouldn't even flit and rather keep to myself and tag on. And so when this sister of mine persuaded me to join for the rehearsals, i found difficulty in agreeing. However, I agreed since I owe her an apology for missing previous years programs and promised her for last year. The rehearsal was to be held every Wednesday for the next 3 weeks in September, and in this time I got familiar with a few faces among the choir members, especially the MD ( Music Director) who ended up being a very close friend of mine.
The day we were to embark finally arrived, and we're all ready with our bags already packed up for the journey that would last for a week. The road wasn't so smooth at the beginning. Unfortunately, an accident occurred the previous night at a place where an explosion took place that resulted in so many deaths. The road was blocked and we had to take another route which was longer and the traffic didn't help one bit. But in all of this, the people in the bus were so lively, we made so many jokes and laughter was heard from every corner and we didn't even feel the longevity of the journey even with the roughness of the road, right there I've gotten familiarize with almost all that's if not all present in the bus . We arrived in Lagos a few minutes past 8 at night. After getting to the destination, we cleaned up our camping area and settled ourselves, ate and rested for the night.
The next day was the day one of the youth program, and being the 1st of October, we appeared wearing an attire matching the country’s color and representing our tribe (The Niger Delta) This happens to be the first time in a long time i tied rapper and a blouse 😂 i dressed this way last as a child.I didn't want to post the picture of it but the story would be incomplete without it so you have it there😅😅….
Back to the pictures… Already I've gotten used to my environment and the people around me. Oh my God they were the most loving set of humans I've ever encountered in my life. When I told them how bad i am in posture, they were like.
Tory don't worry..just free yourself and do a freestyle we'll capture you anyhow you pose. At that point, I became a little shy but still went on with the plan and before you knew it..I ended up with a series of pictures.
This picture especially, was taken on day 3 of the program. Oh my, I so much love my looks in the kimono jacket and I was the one who requested to take pictures that day, and when my newly made friends saw me taking pictures, they too tagged along..
Before the program ended, I'd already taken pictures with everyone, either in a group or just tagging. When it was time to return back to Delta State, I felt bad a little but was fulfilled that i made the right decision of listening to my big sister even if it was only to please her at the beginning, i ended up pleasing myself too. The ride back home was still a little rough but better than our coming. All through the journey i made sure to talk to every single person in the bus since it was going to be the last in a long time something, when it time for departure that was when my heart broke😥..i was already attached, all it took was one week to make me love a lot of people this much, what make me happier was that most, i can't say all were also experiencing same feelings as mine.
It became a bitter sweet experience that i wouldn't forget in a hurry and now am looking forward to another October youth program just to be with them. I just wish they could see this, so they would know how much space they've occupied in my heart ❤
Thanks for stopping by….
