Picking up my silver stacking journey where I left off

Love for silver coins

Some of you already know that my love for silver coins started back in the Steemit days on my old account where I used to drool over the Steem silver rounds that showed on my timeline. At the time, I needed to power down quite a lot simply because life was more expensive than our fiat income. We were climbing back up from being homeless and starting our lives in another country while also facing health issues. I will be eternally grateful for the support I had while I needed the fiat relief over building my stake. Sometimes we didn't get to the end of the month without struggles so there surely was no money to spend on silver coins I loved so much. Therefore I never could afford a Steemit round while that's where my blockchain journey once started.

Hive silver round

Thankfully for me, @silversaver888 decided to release a Hive silver round in June this year and I was lucky to be in time to order one from her. I saved up my HBD for a few weeks to pay the coin and later the shipping costs. I didn't want to miss this opportunity because again, this is part of my journey and story I want to pass on to my kids later. I'm happy to have this sweet round as part of my currently tiny collection.

Picking up where I left off

When I joined an auction website recently for selling purposes, it didn't take me long to check the coin auctions and last week I decided to bid on a set of 2 coins, which I won! This will be the first time that I have two identical silver coins but at least my collection grew by 2 at once, lol.

I was really hoping to find some nice coins on the flea markets we visited this weekend but there were just too many coins I knew nothing about. Mostly these coins were either real ancient coins but with low value or (even more of them) seemed to be tourist versions of these coins looking on the backside of the coins.

Then there was one guy who had a closed box with coins but he knew what he had as he asked high prices, while I had no idea what it was worth, lol. There was none that I found interesting so I clearly didn't buy any of them. I was a bit disappointed because after the lucky win last week, I was hoping to add a few coins to my small collection to dig into the history and write about it but it is what it is.

Keeping an eye on auctions

Instead of hoping for the next win on a flea market, I'm now keeping a close eye on the auctions and mostly those in Spain for lower shipping costs. I've got a bid on a few of those ancient ones, I hope to get lucky at least one more time with a win.

Meanwhile, I will have to dig a bit into the history of pesetas and their prices so that next time when I'm at a flea market I can at least pick up a few of these for my collection because right now I had no clue what I should pay for them and what it would be based on...

My goal for 2024

I have set myself a goal for 2024 and that is to at least buy 1 piece of silver each month, but if possible, find a few more coins for my collection so that I can learn more about silver and ancient coins as well as build a decent stack of my own.

I'm hoping to be able to do so by finding some online deals as well as find them in person on (flea) markets in the future because I'm pretty sure we will be going there at least once a month from now on. Not only have I gotten back stackeritus but the love to hunt for hidden gems is definitely back as well, which is a good combination.

I'm very excited to share more coins that were added to my personal collection. Do you collect silver or other precious metals yourself? Let me know in a comment below..

I missed both the HIVE silver piece and the PIMP one. I hope I am in a better position to take advantage of the next cool one offered.

Buying at least one silver piece per month is a great goal!

I also missed out on the pimp one, sadly. I hope I will have funds for the next pimp one too :)

And I thought it's a great goal indeed, I prefer buying a few more actually so I can write a weekly post or so.. but let's see if I can get my hands on them first haha.

I know right? I yet have to check the others from that series (if there are any that is) but for now I'm a bit focussed on bidding on local auctions for less shipping fees lol. But two coins on the way now, yay :) So in the next week, another update :)

I'm ready for it :) Even the one from Hungary is special even though I didn't love being there, now it means it's part of my story and journey because it was the first silver coin. I bought it because of the tree at the time.

The coloured ones are great too, I doubted which one I was going to order myself at the time. Then I figured I don't know if this changes the value so I stuck with the silver as I was just starting to collect.

2017 is where I joined the old platform and also started to love the silver rounds but I could barely keep my head above water as we were recovering from having absolutely nothing to building a life back.. I enjoyed all the posts shared by all you guys back then though :)

You can never have enough silver, can you? MOAR!

You have a great week yourself !LUV

I recently picked up a beautiful 1993 Portuguese 200 Escudos Commemorative silver coin from my local dealer, I don't know the real value of this coin but I trusted that he priced it fairly (Krause standard Catalog of World coins) before I added to a small group of coins I intend to buy and got a tidy group discount. It's not a Stacking coin, but for collecting reasons because of the subject interest. Being silver simply gives the coin a base value.

In an auction situation you would have time and space to do some price research and establish a bidding plan.
I'm looking forward to see what you get.

If you have such a trusted dealer, I bet he will not screw you over because having a valuable relationship with a returning customer is much more important than earning a few more bucks just once.

There are some ancient coins that I think look cool and would grab on a flea market for example if I saw one in between a bunch of other less interesting ones without knowing the value exactly. I wouldn't pay huge prices on such places because there is no time to really hunt for more information.

The online auction at least gives me room to check it indeed, and sometimes I see people getting lucky because another bidder was not there when the auction was closing, so sometimes it makes sense to start bidding anyway even if you know normally they will bid higher than you aim to do.

I hope my coins come this week otherwise it will be early next week I guess.

Lol! One can rely on Silversaver for some 'Suggested buys' but not financial advice. 🤣

Talk about pretty silver! That's great that you picked up one of the Hive silver.

Too bad the flea market didn't pan out better, they tend to be hit and miss. I have found cool coins at some in the past though!

Oh that's for sure, it's always a gamble. Either way it was a good day out and I hope we can go there at least once a month, maybe two if the weather is nice. I can imagine in winter it will be less pleasant to drive there as well as walk around if it's chilly but when the sun is present, it's a nice stroll. Just not going to combine the two anymore because I'm still paying the price, lol.

Yeah I'm happy I have one of the hive coins, sadly I didn't have funds for one of the PIMP ones but maybe next round ;)

How have you been? Sorry I'm out of tips already, will make up tomorrow!

That's ok, I didn't have enough HBD for the PIMP one's either. Hanging in, a little sore, but welcome to life right?

Yeah I feel a bit similar the past days. I mean, I try to get through the day smiling lol but some hours I feel like an 80 year old.. Made quite some progress with stuff I'm working on today so at least there's that.

Now I'm trying to finish my post for the 12 days of Christmas thing that I was invited to and after that I'm going to think hard how to properly manage the food and gifts around Christmas because I have the feeling days will fly by now.
