MRI Scan Completed - Now We Wait For The Results

Navigating through Spanish health care

Here in Spain it's simple to get something done, that is, once you know where to go. Many businesses lack a website or have half-working websites with just little info. That's been one of my biggest issues in the past weeks to navigate through the clinics offering MRI scans with my insurance and getting an answer once I found one.

Some businesses simply never respond to their contact form emails or messages sent in their app. It's ridiculous but I know this is how it works here. At least I'm seeing an uptrend of solid web sites as well from other businesses so slowly, Spain will be easier to navigate at some point.

Once you know how something works, you don't have to do the searching next time, so it's highly recommendable to save good experiences somewhere in your favourites or bookmark them for a quicker result next time.

First experience in this new clinic

In the middle of a industrial area in a small town nearby there's a clinic offering scans such as MRI and some others. At first, I somehow totally missed them having a website, later I found out why, because their website name is a totally different one than how they're found on maps. It was only yesterday when I discovered they have an online appointment request button so I knew I was finally close to getting an appointment. Sadly I could not add any comments in the request so I just waited until they called me back.

It took a few hours and when the receptionist asked me something I could not understand, a friendly guy speaking English came to the rescue. It was about getting the authorization code from the insurance. I'm glad this happened because otherwise I'd have an issue there today simply because the system connected the referral to another clinic first. This needed to be changed first, good to know for any other time in the future this may happen. Like I said, once you know, it's an easy fix. Just a 5 minute phone call to their customer service and you're good to go.

Next day appointment

The guy asked me if I wanted to come today (yesterday) but on Thursday this is not convenient for my boyfriend to drive me as he has a 13 hour workday on Thursdays. Thankfully, they had time this morning, so I'm very happy they called me back quickly.

After I got this done, I made a new appointment with the trauma doctor because now I knew I'd have the results in a week or so. Sadly, I have to wait 3 weeks for the first available slot, but at least it's booked now.

So much pain

I'm happy things are moving now because yesterday was a very painful day. Not every day is like that but yesterday I felt a constant pressure in my back and it became more painful after I got out of bed, it didn't disappear after taking my meds, in fact, in the afternoon I was going nuts from the pain and didn't knew how to handle it. In the evening, I took my second pill 2 hours early for the first time since I have them.

Today it seems ok-ish but laying on that MRI bed which is very hard did not help much. I'm happy my boyfriend agreed to drive me, even though I'm not affected by the meds constantly, when in pain, I most definitely don't feel like getting on the highway is a smart move. Especially in the middle of nowhere with just mountains and greenhouses around you, I rather have someone with me and not having to deal with traffic.

Glad it's done

After filling in all the paperwork, I could go in immediately and I was told it would take about 12 minutes. I don't know if it took longer in the end but it sure felt like 30 minutes to me at least. I had several MRI scans in my life, the last one also for my lower back, but I didn't recall it to be this unpleasant. I remember nurses telling me to relax and it may be a bit uncomfortable but always ending up thinking, it's not that bad, is it? While this time, I really felt uncomfortable being in that tube as well as feeling everything warmed up inside, lol. I had trouble keeping my arms still at some point and wondered should I ask to put them next to my body or maybe don't because if I mess up this part of the scan, I have to stay inside this thing even longer, lol. My mind was all over the place at some point and I was so happy when he said it was over.

I hope I never have to do one ever again, so let's hope they have clear results! I can check them online in about a week.

Huge dragonfly

Outside of the waiting room, my boyfriend and daughter saw a dragonfly. When we left, it was on the wall and it was huge! I think 15-20 cm and of course, I had to take a picture of it. I could not really see if the picture was very clear using my 200MP camera on the phone but it turned out quite sharp, thankfully.

IMG_20230901_1026271.jpg

What a little piece of art, right? I remember that these (smaller editions) were flying at a local nature swimming pool when I was young and I never really loved them near me simply because they look like a tiny helicopter, haha. When taking this picture, I constantly wondered if he was not going to lift off causing me to have a scare and drop my phone, haha.
Nothing happened, it stayed put while I took 3 pictures and two of them were good enough to share thankfully.

Happy Friday, and enjoy the weekend!

Hope there is nothing but hope there is something that is fixable (you know what I mean right?)

Wishing you a painless friday!

Yeah I know what you mean, in general when you have an exam and they don't find anything, it's way more annoying as you don't know how to solve anything. I've seen this with my boyfriend and his issues with food.

Of course I don't hope it's really bad or needs surgery etc, just hoping to get off these meds with some physical therapy maybe lol. Either way, the wait has begun.

Thanks dear, I'm hoping you have a great weekend!

Thanks, it's sad that it took so long before I could go for the MRI because now the doc appointment has been moved forward twice because of this. But at least once there, all went smooth and now I just wait a few weeks hoping for the best..

Have a great weekend!

I'm glad you were finally able to get the scan done. I hate being stuck in a tube for an MRI, it's so constricting and makes me claustrophobic. I feel for you!

I'm sorry to hear your back flared up again and that the pills didn't help. You may have to take it easy for a couple days to see if it well calm down. And three weeks until your next appointment, I really hope your back calms down!

I'm doing ok, just weaning of prednisone. My foot keeps trying to flare up but tolerable so far. That is a really cool dragon fly, and it's huge! It really is a work of art, it has so many colors. I didn't know they got that big!

I've never seen such a big one before either, quite the piece of art indeed!

Yes, I felt a bit claustrophobic myself but it was the first time I experienced it like that. Just hoping it's a one time thing.

Sucks indeed when it flares up, going for a big walk tonight after my boyfriend finishes work, maybe it helps.

Hopefully you can wean off the prednisone without the foot getting worse!

Take care and have a good weekend!

Hi @thisismylife 👋

I'm sorry to hear your back is still bad. It has been a while now you've had to live with this pain, not to mention the meds and how debilitating they can be.
I'm glad you got an MRI and I hope you get some answers, and a simple resolution to help heal that back.

Wishing healing vibes.
P.s. that Dragonfly is truly magnificent!

Hey there,

It's been a while but as you can see, I've not been online much here besides dropping some daily PIMP tips. I think it's a few months now already, but would have to check it exactly because I'm not sure with these meds every day feels a bit similar lol.

But really hoping it's nothing really bad and now just so painful because I'm used to this dose of meds or something, as I've had a few good weeks with most days very low pain. Not keen on upping it though, just weeks before seeing that doctor, I hope I can manage as is somehow.

When I have the results, I will take them to the GP to show her, and see if she thinks I need one more round of these pills or that she thinks another treatment until seeing the trauma doc is best. Right now it's guessing what's causing it and I can imagine if she sees the Xray and MRI results that she can guess what the follow up treatment will be (more or less) as well as pain treatment.

Went for a long walk this evening, the weather is nice but a bit sticky as humidity went up again, they predict thunderstorms for Sunday so it was a bit uncomfortable with the humidity, still walked along the whole boulevard to have a bit extra movement today.

How have you been? I have not been reading anything on Hive the past weeks honestly so I have no clue..

Great dragonfly for sure, I love finding these unexpected treasures in nature. That clinic was in the middle of an industrial area, you don't really expect to see anything beautiful because it's all either industrial or greenhouses (looks crap all around). And I think the pic turned out quite nice, I still have to learn how to make the most out of this camera but it's low on my priority list..

Hope you're well <3

I'm alright I suppose, still battling chronic illness and the critically underfunded and overworked doctors of the NHS. The latest instalment in that saga is that I've been having chest pains and breathing problems. I'm going for an ECG on Monday and having a bunch of blood tests done but they take ages to work through all the possibilities, and meanwhile, if it is something serious I just have to suffer it.

now just so painful because I'm used to this dose of meds or something, as I've had a few good weeks with most days very low pain. Not keen on upping it though

Yeah, this sounds familiar from when I was on strong painkillers for my back. You're right that you build up a tolerance after 2-3 weeks on them and the only way to get the same pain relief is to up the dose... but then you end up high as a kite and unable to do much. The way forward is to address the underlying cause for sure. Hopefully, that's what will happen once they get the results back from your MRI scan. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you 🤞

Just be sure to discuss with your doctor a taper regimen when you decrease or come off the pain meds as you don't want to end up in withdrawal, that is hellish! I think it is definitely possible that you've built up a dependence if you are showing signs of tolerating the meds (them becoming less effective). That's when you need to decrease the dose gradually to come off them.

I am sending healing thoughts your way in my meditations @thisismylife and hope you'll be enjoying those long walks in the sun pain free asap 🙂 🌿

Sorry to read that.. Hope the test goes well today! <3

I definitely built up tolerance so once the results are available I will take them to the general practitioner to see what she advises to get through the last week or so until I see the trauma doc. Can't imagine it's smart to have another round of this stuff, I read it's used for short treatments normally and even read for 5 days max a few times when looking it up.

So I bet it's smarter to take 1 daily for a few weeks first until completely stopping the treatment, but I'll ask the doc end of the week /beginning next week. Depends on how quickly my results come in.

Thanks for the healing vibes! I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you today <3

Thanks! No waiting can be exciting but in this case, I just want to know what I can do to make it better, or what the doc can do etc. Pretty done with these meds as well and I'll be happy when I can switch treatment honestly.

Thanks for the Pizza !PIMP

Greetings, I hope the results can help you to recover from that pain, the medical issue is always a problem, too bad that some clinics do not have internet. Very nice pictures you took of the insect, what a good memory you experienced.

Great pic of the dragonfly! So sharp! Impressed. I hope your MRI is clear - sometimes you feel better just by getting a diagnosis! Back pain sucks.

It could have probably been better if I wasn't too scared to come so close as well as having a hard time bending towards the wall it was on, lol. And yes I agree, at this point I just need to know what it is so I can work towards making it better. I have the feeling it might be related to my not so supportive office chair. My boyfriend pointed out that he hates my chair (I loved it actually) as it doesn't give any support. I never understood why he would want to bend backwards as far as he does so I'm like this is good, lol. Now that he let me sit on his chair yesterday as he didn't have to work, I noticed that my back felt some relief. Not without pain though, you know once something hurts this much, it's still painful when you get relaxation at that area.. but I felt it was supported. So from today, I'm using a pillow in my back to see if it changes anything. I'm constantly paying attention to my posture as well and remind myself to sit up when I feel I'm not doing that properly.
Fingers crossed there will be some news to work towards healing soon..
