Eating Iberico meat for the first time - A great evening out!
Weeks ago
Feels like ages ago already, simply because these weeks after our arrival in Spain have been hectic, moving around from A to B and buying a lot of items we need for our new home. Therefore a lot of my folders with pictures of food and tapas remained unused while I have SO many cool ones to share. It's just that my body is telling me to slow down for a bit longer because I'm still not fully recovered. The really cool stuff will have to wait a bit longer as I have to go through tons of pictures, meanwhile, I can share some other dinner moments that were memorable, like this one today.
We arrived at our second AirBnB
And it was tough let me tell you that. Where our first place had an elevator, I discovered that I somehow missed the "no elevator" comment for our second stay and noticed this the day before arrival. Yay! On top of this, we also had no parking space nearby so bringing our luggage to the front door while 30 degrees was no fun, and then we needed to go 2 floors up as well. You can imagine we were totally drained and hungry after that!
Exploring the area
Although exhausted, an evening walk on the boulevard, with a nice ocean breeze is always nice.
I could not really walk far anymore as my body was already giving me signals to slow down after the heavy lifting (even though my poor boyfriend carried most upstairs). We bumped into a small restaurant where the owners were sitting outside, they welcomed us and it was mostly their friendly attitude that made me propose to sit there. No idea what they had on the card yet, but I just needed to sit lol. This started well with an ice-cold big bottle of water, which was super welcome. We sat down, discussed the day, and realized again, that we were very happy to be here. We knew one of the next days we were going to check out our possible new home, so the moods were good and positive.
Ordering food
I decided to play a bit safe and ordered a pork tenderloin from the grill, I love grilled meat and veggies. My boyfriend wanted lamb chops but they didn't have them, so the waiter proposed to try Iberico meat instead which he agreed to. We started with a shared salad and some homemade bread while our daughter wa waiting for her spaghetti carbonara to arrive.
The food
For starters:
Delicious homemade bread
Homemade aioli, so good!
Tuna salad, which was more lettuce than anything else, but it did the trick
Iberico from the grill, sorry I don't remember which part of meat it was, lol
I thought it looked nasty and at first, didn't want to try it, I was happy eating my pork tenderloin with some homemade pepper sauce instead, but as my boyfriend said it was SO good, he insisted I tried it. He was right, it tasted 100x better than it looked.
Pork tenderloin from the grill, which was actually amazingly good!
Homemade french fries, yum!
Spaghetti carbonara for the little lady, not as good as how I make it was the verdict, as per usual, lol
Homemade pepper sauce, so good!
Topping off the meat with the sauce, and enjoy!
Conclusion
We were the only customers for several hours and it seemed that the pandemic had left its marks on their business as well. I was happy we could support some locals that served mostly homemade food which also tasted great. It was a nice evening out, not as expensive as I expected and we walked home all satisfied after some hours.

Beautiful dishes! Pretty simple, but oh so delicious! I just have to get something off my chest! 😉 "French" fries!!! Thar are "Belgian" fries! 😀
Uhhh ohhh I woke up about two hours ago and I'm hungry as a dog, and then you come with this post, you literally destroyed me with your Iberico meat and I'll probably have some boiled eggs and a tuna salad for breakfast.
Voted on ListNerds!
The food look absolutely delicious! It's good that you are able to enjoy them while helping a business go through the day.
Bon Apetit as they say!
That looks delicious.
Love grilled meats!
Felt for you and your family: no elevator; no parking; 30 degrees; multiple flights of stairs! Good that you had the evening walk and a lovely meal!
Yeah, I agree, grilled is nice!
Add to that the fact that we had everything with us that we took from Hungary, so 5 heavy suitcases plus a lot of other bags with groceries etc. It was a nightmare haha. Thankfully, for our departure, we could park the van in front of the door and didn't need to walk far to get to the parking space this time.
The meal was nice though! :)
I can see it!
Nice meat that tastes like acorns (eikeltjes vlees)😁 but looking tasty even at 12:00
I have no idea what eikeltjes vlees is lol. But it was good yes!

Iberico is mainly more expensive as those pigs get eikeltjes for dinner and are supposed to taste different because of it a little bit like a corn chicken (mais kip)
Mmmmm ... Iberico! I love it. Did you also noticed that the meat here has a lot more flavor or is it just me? Normally I don't eat large portions of meat, but here the taste is so good. I had yesterday a solomillo steak from the Limousin and Charolais beef. They sell it at Lidl. You have to try that one!
Compared to Hungary, 100% more flavor! The quality even of identical products is much higher here. Which makes me very happy honestly because it was a big frustration, especially when they have such bad customer service on top of that when you complain about something.
We had a few steaks from lidl recently, not sure which ones, I will try to remember this and try it if I see it. Our first choice of supermarket is mercadona now though because it's much closer. Last week we walked to Lidl once, as some things are just best bought there haha.

This is the packaging ... without the steak 😁
The food looks absolutely delicious, I see you needed that after such a hot & exhausting day! How long are you staying in the "no elevator" place, or have you moved out there already?
Oh, it was! Honestly, I think most things would have tasted good after such a day but we went back another time and it was great that time as well.
We were there until we moved into our new home here so that's like 2 weeks ago now. It was ok without all the suitcases, I can honestly say that after 1 week, it was better doable even during the hottest hours of the day, you get used to it quickly so it seems, lol.
We also have a stairs here to enter this building, but that's just 1/2 or something of those 2 floors there. Here we have other challenges: living uphill so it can be a pain walking uphill with groceries ;) lol.. Would not want to trade with the other apartment though..

It was a great day out for the family, not surprised that the meals left a lasting impression, they look quite delicious. First time getting to know about Iberico meat, what is special about it? thanks.
I agree with you about grilled meats. They taste so much better.
It looks like you guys made a good choice of eatery.
The food looks awesome.
I am jealous and hungry after reading about that fantastic meal. Thanks for sharing.
