Unleashing Cooking Skills For Homemade Meals

There's no much thinking about my answer to the question of "Homemade or takeout meals?" because I've had a fair share of both experiences to acknowledge that homemade meals always win. I'm not saying I haven't had really good and delicious meals as takeouts but they still haven't beat homemade meals for me.

I'm not a great Chef but I know well enough how to prepare delicious meals that I would enjoy and feel like I bought some restaurant meal. A friend of mine would always ask, "What's in these party meals?" because a lot of us would agree that those meals tastes differently.

But those meals made at home by good cooks like our mums mostly, anyone would give up unnecessary expenses for them. Sometimes, I wonder how every cook make their meals taste different even when same ingredients are used. Even my own meals taste different sometimes for me. That's the beauty of home cooking, I guess.

I don't know about others but a lot of takeouts I've had, they taste almost alike and I have them only when I have no alternative or too lazy to prepare my own meals, these times are very hard to come by. I may not like stress but I don't find cooking stressful a lot of times and so I always visit the kitchen when I'm hungry.

I've imagined that if I should have a kitchen with all the kinds of cooking equipments and ingredients, I would not get tired of preparing my own meals.

I once visited a family's house, they had really good cooking equipments like an electric cooker, an oven, a microwave and really beautiful cooking utensils. While they were being reluctant to ask me to prepare dinner, I was so excited to make use of everything I could find to whip up a nice meal. You may not believe it but they enjoyed my meal so well, I felt so proud.

Why? Because this family rarely cooks at home, it's either the elder daughter is eating out or the younger son is coming home with takeouts. These meals are delicious for them because they don't give time to make their own meals or maybe they really don't know how to.

As for me, I'll choose homemade meals for these reasons I'll share:

  • Less expensive.

Even though there won't be the option of having mixed tastes in one meal, I would get to spend less and having enough to eat when I cook at home. I don't know about others but I have to eat an extra more to be filled from eating out. It isn't same with home made meals, I get satisfied easily which I think it's more than enough reason to enjoy cooking instead.

  • Improve my cooking skills.

If I should rely on takeouts, I'll not only be spending too much, I'll also not see any need to develop my cooking skills in preparation to the time I'll have a family to feed everyday. Even now, I have my dad and siblings and I can't afford to not make homemade meals. All these regular home cooking is improving my cooking skills.

  • Keeping balanced and healthy eating routine.

I have the habit of not being too cautious about what I eat when I buy meals in restaurant as I always feel it's just to fill my stomach but I can be very mindful for what I eat at home since I'll be the one spending time to prepare it. Homemade meals are better prepared with nutrients and healthy intentions.

There are other reasons but I'll stop here, do share what you think about homemade meals and takeouts.
