Market Friday at 99 Ranch [EN/PT-BR]

I'm back at #marketfriday by @dswigle one more time, with another market that I go pretty often here in San Diego. 99 Ranch is the largest chain of asian supermarkets in the US, but most of the stores are located in California. I think most of the products comes from China and Taiwan, but there are products from all over south east asia.
One of the things I always get there is chicken hearts, I think it's the only place I can find it. In Brazil we love chicken hearts on our barbecues. My kids love it.
I always buy fruits and vegetables there, they have very good quality things with a good price.
But I think the best thing about it is the variety of fresh fish. I think there is no other place where you can find such a big variety and also live fish in tanks. Look at these pictures.

Estou de volta ao #marketfriday da @dswigle mais uma vez, com outro mercado que frequento com bastante frequencia aqui em San Diego. O 99 Ranch é a maior cadeia de supermercados asiáticos dos EUA, mas a maioria das lojas está localizada na Califórnia. Acho que a maioria dos produtos vem da China e de Taiwan, mas há produtos de todo o sudeste asiático.
Uma das coisas que sempre compro lá é coração de galinha, acho que é o único lugar onde consigo encontrar. No Brasil, adoramos coração de galinha no churrasco. Meus filhos adoram.
Eu sempre compro frutas e verduras lá, eles têm coisas de muito boa qualidade e um bom preço.
Mas acho que o melhor de tudo é a variedade de peixes frescos. Acho que não tem nenhum outro lugar onde você possa encontrar uma variedade tão grande e também peixes vivos em tanques. Da uma olhada nessas fotos.

They have some ready, or semi-ready to go sushi section. If it's not ready yet, it is sushi grade fish in this section.

The fresh produce section is amazing, they have so many different types of greens that I've never seen before. And also a huge variety of fresh mushrooms.

The market is incredibly vast and it appears that everything can be found there. The only thing that can be purchased at a lower cost compared to us is fish. The price of meat in your country is nearly double what it is here.)
Well, that meat in the picture is sliced and packaged for shabu-shabu, so it’s more expensive. But regular steaks I can get for about $7/lb.

It does have a great variety of fresh fish, and its market is enviable. I live on the Atlantic coast of the US and there are many, many seafood markets that sell them as they are coming off the boats. Different setups, but, it is still very fresh! I have to agree, the tanks and presentation there are awesome!
Everything is exceedingly clean, and fresh, it makes you want to shop there. I cannot find fault with anything you show. :) It might be nice to say what you did buy and if you felt as if you got your money's worth on some of these items. The dried squid are chewy, just like you would expect (think calamari), and usually have sugar, chili pepper, and salt added. I think you would like them!

I love the downtown area of New Bedford! It isn't overly fancy, but, has some really nice historical features. There aren't that many good whaling villages/towns left along the East Coast, many places opt to go the route of progress which can be great on one hand, but, there is a lot to be said for hanging on to a little bit of the history. Especially the old buildings, full of history and charm. Plus, they just don't build like that anymore.
I like the door leading to an upstairs office or store, or sometimes even an apartment. It was how they built towns yesteryear. The owners lived upstairs and the store was downstairs. It made running it easier, having access to it that way. The cozy crib is its own place now. Making extra money on renting the places out separately.
That bugs bunny mural was interesting. I thought perhaps it was a mural operation or a business of that kind. Nope. Not at all. :) I have no idea, but, New Bedford has a ton of murals! I want to thank you for your support for #MarketFriday! It is always a pleasure to come and see where you are taking us!
#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers' markets, and eventually branched out and evolved over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, and even your language/languages that separate us... Along with the fact that these things are normal for us. There are unwritten rules that rule our social behaviors. I see this as allowing for increased tolerance between cultures and nations, and opportunities to come together on an even playing ground. A strong culture can be beneficial to a country as it promotes unity, especially during a crisis, peaceful debate, and open dialogue. I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world.
