A Dark and Majestic Otter

avatar

a-dark-majestic-otter-meesterboom.jpg

Hey, where have you been you bastardingly handsome cavalier of a man?

I hear you cry.

Well, what a splendid welcome. Thank you! Who am I talking to? Myself. Oh my. Well, my middle name does happen to be Rhetorical. Not Literally Rhetorical because that would probably confuse even me.

So, where was I? Aha, Where was I indeed is the question.

I have been taking a bit of time out of online shenanigans, several events have happened to me and to those I know of late and it has been enough to give me pause and think, what the fucking fuck?

But, like an unwanted erection when your friend's sexy Auntie insists on having this dance at a wedding, I couldn't stop myself from popping back up.
fucking hell, given my age I might have to quit it with the sexy Aunty nonsense?!

So, I prevailed myself with a short leave from posting till I got my head together and realised that I had a duty, not only to the platform I love but also a duty as the King of Men to get back in the posting saddle and that is what I aim to do.

Perhaps it was the Cazcabel Tequila shots on Friday night? Perhaps it was the way that my morning poo on this very day glided out from me with nary a splash or a sound and into the water like a dark and majestic otter.

I would hate to make that call on the precise event that drew me back like an iron filing in search of a magnet. So I shan't. But I shall tell you that I am back baby. With magnificent stories of life and its shenanigans and certainly not death for it is shit.

It was death that drew me away, not my own I might add for that would make this a darker and more scarier tale than it is. Alas, no. It was someone else. A very good friend of yore who was younger even than myself.

I do not write this for hugs and well wishes.
Why you writing it then you prick? One might ask if they were a callow sort.

I write it just to explain where I was as I love the old Hive and would hate to leave it and although I have dropped in a bit here and there I hadn't been my full Hiving self.

By that, I don't mean farming the fuck out of daily shit posts for money or bitterly splashing my furiously typed seed onto the screen in place of a stout mitten.

No no, It was simpler than that.

I missed the chat and the bada-bing of life on the open web. A life where any old random can pop into your comments and call you dear and expect to be congratulated for it. A life where you can be tagged by a random dude from far away who wants to tell you why you are doing what you do in life. Ah, those are the best ones.

That my friends is what Web 3.0 is. Perhaps even Web 3.1?

Although I think the thing I missed most was doing my arty little cover pictures. I think they are arty at least. I will happily fight anyone who says otherwise.

So, that is my update. Not the funniest but at least there are no pictures of shadows, flowers or trees. :OD

For now...

Well hi there fucker, what the bloody fuck, here you are! #wtbf

I've already said it elsewhere but, condolences. Knowing what I know about it...well, it was a bad situation and there's no wonder you needed a break.

But...a bastardingly handsome debonair chap like you must push forward and unleash your bastardingly handsome debonairish ways upon us lesser beings right?

Good to have you back.

I did miss you dear(expecting congratulations)

I came to look a few days back to see if I missed a post somehow, but no, it had indeed been a long time since you had spread your... .I mean....posted here on Hive. I was hoping that it was just general life stuff and that you had not slide down a sewer drain when no one was looking, never to be heard from again.

Your covers are quite arty I'm thinking, no matter what anyone else says.

Glad you're back !

Oh very congratulations to you!! 😀😀

Yes indeed, it was ages. Hasn't been that long for a while. It was good actually to not look at my phone or fanny about with screens.

But only for a while! Cheers lass!! 🙂🙂

It's nearly hard to remember when there were no screens to look at and no phones glued to our hands. Somehow though, we still managed to fill all our time. Who knew things could change so much during one lifetime.

My condolences also for your loss.

It is hard to remember. Those times where you had to wait if someone was late and had no idea what was going on! Its not even so long ago. I remember getting my first phone and being soundly ridiculed for being a snob. Then seeing my mate have one of the first phones that could text and everyone was like, why? Why would you send a tiny wee message?! LOL

Cheers lass, it was a tough one I think cos the mate I lost was five years younger than me and it just could not compute

I can understand that sentiment about your mate. When I was only 28, my next door neighbor, who was also 28 died of a heart attack. Turns out it was genetic and ran in her family, but it was very hard to fathom at that time, someone my own age perishing. Heart attacks were certainly something I wasn't worried about at that time, those things only happened to old people ! Even I was amazed at how very much that affected me at the time.

When people say "you just never know"... it is true, you just never know !

0

avatar

It is so true, you really just never know. I think that is why you have to live life while you have it and not just spend your days being curmudgeonly and bitter!

I think as you get older you start to get a sense of your own mortality more as well and it shakes the pants off ye and not in a good way

0
0
0.000
avatar

My mortality is certainly closer in my thoughts as I've gotten older. It helps me talk myself out of a lot of nonsense for sure. I think sometimes, what am I spending my little time concerned about THAT for ?! (whatever THAT is at the time)... and I try to get myself turned in a better direction.... for whatever little time I might have left. ha ha.... but not in a morbid way, in a fun way that lets me leave it behind.

I am the same, it has helped me not go full crazy on nights out with the guys and sometimes I have even got home early-ish... Not too early though, I've not gone full wuss.

I do find myself thinking about things and telling myself to give myself a break. Lol, the madness of the mature years 😀😀

Glad to see you back in the saddle, riding the Majestic mare that's known as Hive. Which might be an odd name for a mare.

Really, who in their right mind would name a female horse Hive? Lucinda, now that would be a mare one would love to ride, right?

Though then that would be just an aweful name for a free decentralized application and publication platform.

The image is kind of Majestic, as always fun to look at, inviting to read about that otter. And then have an amused grin as it slides by.

Reality, in the meantime, has its own challenges. One of those is losing a dear friend that shouldn't. That way I lost a very good friend, suddenly, a while back. Friends since our teenage years. It turns things upside down. Picking up after that felt strange. My condolences for your loss.

That Aunty of a friend thing... When you're half a century 'ish' in age, like me, I can imagine the magic thrill of that might be off a little. Although some do age pretty well, I must state. And if you never try, you will never know.

Anyway, guess I'm close to flushing an otter myself and then get some stuff done. One more coffee to go.

Have a great one mister Boom!

Lucinda the Hive mare!!! Ah yes, that is a fitting name for a horse but perhaps not a decentralised nonsense thing.

It's a funny old thing, I have had a fair few bereavements over the last 5-10 years or so but my friend got me harder almost because it was so close to home. Profoundly bizarre the effect it had on me.

Still, one has to move onward and sat last remember the good times.

Speaking of which, I have an otter and a coffee keeps to look forward to. Cheers mate!

Hmmm, there might be a song in that: "Lucinda the Hive mare, she ain't no Nightmare. No, she's quite tough, riding quite rough", chords: C Em G D. A bit like 'Nelly the Elephant', or something in line with that.

Can imagine the bizarre effect. It did take me quite a while to get myself back on track again. And indeed remember the good times and move forward.

Set the otters free!
With a little help of some coffee.

Cheers Mate!

I always enjoy your posts and you get great engagement. I've used various platforms over the years including hosting my own blog, but Hive gets the most activity by far. It really isn't just about the rewards for me. If I post something then I want someone to actually read the bollocks I put up.

Of course rewards can vary massively and you could make a lot more by posting more often. I don't take them for granted, but I post most days as I have stuff to get out there. The running activities will happen anyway and I feel I ought to add something to give them value. That Strava app is just great for integrating with Hive.

Is there any chance we could see you at Hivefest? I am thinking of going as it's not too far away and I've not been to Croatia. You would have a great time.

Hive has been the best platform for me over the years for engagement and creativity. Reward too but like your I don't post for that. I post for the sheer enjoyment of it.

I think posting daily is fine. After all, I used to! I sometimes get annoyed by the really low effort daily posts for the sake of it. You will know the ones.

Your running posts are a great example of how to add flavour to a regular post because you actually add content to yours!

Alas, I could never afford Croatia. I would love to go to another hivefest. Or at least one, I have only ever been to the vet first on t'other chain. Boo hiss, although it was a great experience
