THE SKILL THAT MADE ALL THE DIFFERENCE

In my native language, there’s something called kira kita, meaning daily hustle. Gather 100 people and ask what’s their main definition of success and 99% will say achieving a financial independence. This is solely because being financially independent saves you from lots of embarrassment and provides you with comfort you seldom yearn for. Money doesn’t buy happiness they say, does poverty buy? Absolutely NO.

This topic happens to be the one that piqued my interest the most because I so much enjoy what I’m doing presently as a side hustle (now a main business ) aside my academics. It started off as joke but it’s becoming the reality that if I happen to win millions of grant, I’m ready to invest in it.
Actually, it is not really a skill but a business. But I’d rather consider it a skill because it’s one thing to never see a product but can at least know how it’s going to smell, do you get? Not everyone has this!

During the eight month strike in all federal universities in my country, I think about what to do at least to get money to solve little bills instead of calling dad and mom all times. I was going to start with footwear but I have a very close friend that does it so I couldn’t go there. Instead, my favorite cousin introduced me to her business although she wasn’t really intentional about it.

I started my perfume business in August, 2022 and I just celebrated a year on August 2023. It was a very rapid growth and it is really beautiful to watch. Started From having one order per week to selling goods almost everyday. It’s a great achievement to myself.
The amount I started with was really small but the growth is rapid. This is me telling you that you necessarily do not need to know how to start, just do it anyway .

I derived the zeal for the business the first day I visited my first supplier. Her store was massive, beautifully decorated and well arranged with loads of luxury perfumes and lesser ones. I also gained a lot of knowledge from my first supplier through the way she advertised her business and going all out for her brand.
Despite the fact that’s she has a big personality as an award winning female entrepreneur, she still shamelessly carry her business on her head. This motivate me a lot to stick to my business and be consistent with it. Even when I’m not seeing the results, I still do them.

I started off by setting up a brand, utilize all the social media platforms majorly Whatsapp, Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter. I always educate my audience on the proper use of perfumes as it’s the most delicate self care products.
This way, I am solving a problem while maximizing my profit. And presently, I have over four people that started their perfume business through me. And it’s really beautiful to watch.

Social media is very advantageous to those who utilize it for their businesses.
So I want to know if you mix the perfumes yourself and how do you know what and what to add together to make a great smell.

I'm a vendor, I only sell them. The skill I was referring to is being able to recommend scents that matches customers choice. It's not everyone that gets it and that has been keeping us moving.
@abenad thanks for your beautiful comments.

Yes I got it that it’s a business but I asked because of my follow up question,
Have you thought of learning how make the scents yourself?
I think you’d excel in that too

Yes, I had the thought and I'm always being fascinated with the way it's been done online. But the problem is where do I get to learn it physically.
