A typical day for me // The inkwell prompt

When I first saw this prompt, I just smiled because I am someone who loves to plan my day ahead. I literarily have my itinerary for the day immediately I wake up. Guess what? My day has never gone well as I always imagine. It is either I get disappointed or I get wowed by an unbelievable experience which may be good or bad. But one thing is certain and that is the fact that I always plan. So I will write this article as I usually imagine it every time I wake up.

The first thing I do after I wake up in the morning is pray with my family. Well, I wake up like three times before dawn to breastfeed my baby. I don't know if that still counts as waking up. However, I officially wake up by 6am ish. Sometimes I just sneak into my husband's arms to be loved up before prayers. After prayers, we gist and talk about our movements for the day and everyone leaves the bed to kick off the day officially.

I head to the kitchen to prepare breakfast for the family. After that, I love to dish out the food to be getting cold while I rush to freshen up my baby girl. Sometimes, it takes up to 20-30 minutes because she loves to play in her bath tub. When I am in a playful mood, I let her play while joining her. Other times, she has to just have her bath and leave because mama ain't ready for any sort of playing. That hurts me sometimes especially when she starts crying. But then, they cannot always have their way right?.

After bathing her, I dress her and we head to eat. After eating, I keep her with her father while I rush off to have my bath and to get dressed too. And then, I carry her and we head out. I don't have a nanny for her yet. I am not sure I want to hire one anytime soon by the way. Beep! Beep!, we are on our way to school. I attend a culinary school by the way. I drop her off with other kids at the children's reserved area while I head to my class to study. I usually go in and out of classes just to check on her.

School is over and we are heading home. If there is anything I need to buy on my way home, I stop by the market to buy it. If not, we are heading straight to the house. When we get home, we relax a bit before we shower, eat and call it a day. But before I go to bed, I sought out my outfit and that of my child for the next day. I get her bag ready so as not to forget anything in a hurry too. And then finally, I just go straight to bed.

There you go. That's a typical day well spent for me.

Wondering what's going on, check out this post to know more.

Thank you for reading

I wanted to say you have less activities on your day but...the thought of having a baby popped out and that said it all. No one is more busier than a mother with a toddler.

You're doing well👍

This is a well planned day I must say @joydukeson . Again, getting all things ready ahead of the next day is the best to avoid unnecessary rush and forgetfulness. I enjoyed the write up and that plate of food is super attractive and I know the taste can't be anything different from delicious.

I would've said you have a day of flex when you mentioned culinary school and cooking.

But I know better since a baby is involved, taking care of babies can be both joyful and tiring at other times. I've had to babysit some occasions and I can proudly say the longest I've lasted is an hour 😂😂

I know right? Having a baby is a big work on its own already. The cry, shouts and play can keep you off balance and make you loose concentration for a while.

Thank you for sharing the details of your day, @joydukeson. Your day sounds busy, fun and interesting. Juggling a young child and going to culinary school is a lot to manage, but since you love to plan, it seems you are doing very well.

Thank you for sharing your creative nonfiction story in The Ink Well, and for reading and commenting on the work of other community members.

That is interesting that you plan your day, but you end up feeling disappointed. I'm sure someone who understands the psychology of planning would have some good advice for you. I've studied planning methods a bit, and one of the pieces of advice I remember is to create lists of things you would like to achieve with your day, and then prioritize them. For example, the really important items would be priority "A" and then the less important things would be priority "B" and then the rest of the items would be priority "C." The goal is to achieve the A priorities, and then if you get to any of the others, you know which ones are next in line after the most important ones. And if you never get to the C priorities, it's okay because they were not that important!
