Exhausting week

My god, what a week. Having dogs is fun! That comes first, but sometimes it can really exhaust you completely. Especially if you have several dogs and there is a dog virus floating around. That's what I was dealing with last week... and we're not there yet.

Dog virus

It started with Lana, she got a bit lethargic, downright grumpy, and she had to vomit a few times. Then the diarrhea started. I'll spare you the sordid details... but it wasn't fun. Not for her, but not for us either. I'll be honest, I'm definitely not at my best when I wake up in the middle of the night hearing sounds I shouldn't hear. And smell smells that I shouldn't smell, which means that I can clean the entire living room floor in the middle of the night. That usually makes my mood not so good.

She can't help it

Lana couldn't help it, though, and she was clearly not feeling well either. So after cleaning, it was time to sit down with her and cuddle. While cuddling, I can immediately check with my hands whether her temperature is normal. If her ears or groin feel extremely warm, I know she has a fever, without the need to use a thermometer. When that turned out not to be the case, and she had fallen asleep again, I could go back to bed for a few more hours of sleep.

Not over yet

The next day was not much better. The diarrhea was clearly not over... And her mood was even worse than mine. You can say it wasn't fun.
Meanwhile, Skipper was of course just himself. Cheerful, reckless and energetic. He just needed his long walk, so despite my low energy level that day... we just to go out together. I did notice that I'm not 20 anymore, LOL!

Very early morning

The night passed with another interruption, only this time the interruption came at a time when I decided not to go back to bed. And so I was already sipping my tea at 4.30 in the morning. Once again the living room floor was completely mopped and the washing machine was already running. I thought I could sleep a few hours in the afternoon, but I was not allowed that either. Lana had to go out about every two hours and since I know when I go to sleep, she doesn't show that she has to. So just keep going!

Oh no, not Myla too

If you already think this is annoying, you soon realize that it could be worse. That night I woke up again to sounds I didn't want to hear. Only now it turned out not to be Lana, but Myla. And while I was cleaning up the misery again, Lana couldn't hold it anymore, so this night was double misery, and double cleaning. With two dogs sick, and cleaning for three nights now, it was really time for the vet.

Time for the vet

I know that a dog virus jumps very easily from dog to dog and I really wasn't hoping that Skipper would get infected too. So during the day I was busy keeping the dogs apart. To prevent them from infecting each other, they were not allowed to do what they are used to. Eating each other's food, when I come back from walking with Myla, Skipper is normally always ready to greet Myla very sweetly. That's nice and sweet, but he wasn't allowed to do it now. All these little things made sure that I had my hands full even more than usual.

Protecting Skipper from getting infected too

In the meantime, the ladies have been given a remedy for the diarrhea and that ensures that I no longer have any nightly cleaning work. It's certainly not over yet, but well, the flu sometimes lasts longer than a week for us. It is important to make sure that the dogs continue to drink enough, with Myla it is now a struggle to get her to eat because she hardly does that. And it remains to be careful that Skipper does not stick his nose in places where he has no business.

Let's hope and pray that this will be over soon

I will be happy when everything goes back to normal, and both dogs feel good again, and this also shows by them having a normal stool. But for now at least, I'm grateful that I can sleep at night again without interruption.

Yup, it's never fun when they are down, but 2 out of 3 at the same time makes it even hard to deal with. And is sure taking up a great lot of my time. Hopefully they will be soon completely back to normal.
