Lino Beer and Korean food, a perfect match

LinoBeer_SeoulTable.jpg

Hello, Hivers and Beer lovers!

Last week, my husband and I went to a small Korean food restaurant that opened a few months ago in Bogotá.

We were curious since last January, more than once, we had seen the couple of Korean girls who opened it working at a Starbucks near the place where we are staying in town. We were surprised at knowing they opened a restaurant a couple of months later.

So last week, we finally went to try it. It was my first time eating in an authentic Korean place. My experience was limited to having eaten kimchi and little else of Korean food so it was a new experience.

The place is called Seoul Table. It has a simple decor and a not very extensive menu. And this time it turned out that simple is best.

So let me tell you about the experience. But as my friend @tengolotodo invited me to share with you a beer experience last weekend. I'm going to start with the beers that we had with our meal.

The place has only one brand of local beer called Lino on its menu. But here's a little twist. This Colombian brewery was founded by a Korean.

An executive of a technology firm who spent time working in Colombia and who was fond of making craft beers in his native Korea, decided to settle in Colombia and dedicate himself to brewing beers.

So the beer is sold as Korean Pasion with Colombian Taste.

Along with our beers we ordered a starter of crispy eggplant slices that came with a kimchi jam that was delicious.

As for the beers ...

I chose a Pale Ale called COLPA. It was not bitter at all and quite refreshing. It had floral and passion fruit tones. It was served chilled as I like this type of beer. And it was so good that the husband on the second round changed his first choice to Colpa.

My husband chose an Amber Ale called COLAA to start with. It had a dark reddish color with caramel tones. It was good but the favorite for both of us was the COLPA.

I ordered a Bibimbap. A typical Korean dish consisting of a bowl of rice with different vegetables, protein, mine was beef and topped with a fried egg. It came with a spicy sauce to add to taste and the girl at the restaurant told me that the way to eat it was by mixing all the ingredients.

My husband ordered a dish that was listed on the menu as Japchae Bowl. It was also a white rice base. With beef and sweet potato noodles stir-fried with vegetables. The sauce was medium sweet and all that with a fried egg on top.

Both dishes were delicious and if you don't believe me look how my plate turned out.

So both the food and the Lino beer were so good that we would like to repeat the experience and try other dishes.

This is my entry to #BeerSaturday week 419.

Thank you for reading. Cheers 🍻

It’s nice that Seoul Table brings authentic Korean flavors right to Bogotá, especially with that special touch of the Lino beer’s Korean Colombian fusion. The Bibimbap and Japchae look delicious!

This gets a 10/10 and I tell you KISS so often wins the day. The beers look great and I know Mrs T would want that glass! The food looks great too. Most of my Korean food has been with a raw egg so that was nice to see a fried one Super Eli.
I love how authentic it is and you are making me hungry Super Eli 💙

This was for real a perfect KISS in all senses, Super Ed
Raw egg in Korean food? I'm curious now jeje.
After this experience, I have to go back to try other dishes.
Happy Wednesday, Super Ed 💙

Not sure if they still do the raw egg. I had to entertain a group of Chinese speaking engineers for 3 months not long after I started working, so often took them to Chinatown in London, there were a couple of Korean restaurants there. One popular dish was basically raw shredding beef with a raw egg cracked over it!
Quite tasty after a couple of beers!
Happy Wednesday Super Eli 💙

Interesting foodie adventure here. The closest to a Korean food experience I had is at BonChon. I love the mandu (Korean dumplings). 😋 Fascinating you found the right beverages to go with your meals. Yum! Happy week ahead!

My dear, how nice to see you again! I'd like to take this opportunity to send you my warmest regards. You did well to venture into this place for the first time, as I can see it caught both your attention. I haven't tried Lino's beers, but I'm told they're some of the best around. I think I would have chosen COLPA too, and now that you mention it has floral and passion fruit notes, I'm totally convinced. The food looks great too; you describe it with such affection that I wish I could be there. Thanks for sharing, I send you a big hug from Caracas! ❤️
