There Is More To Adulthood

A few years back, if I am asked “Do you look forward to being an Adult Bee?” I will gladly say “YES”. I was in so much hurry to be an adult. When I clocked 18 years I was super excited. I kept saying how I was a legal adult now, I could do anything, drive a car, stay on my own, travel the world, make my decisions, and a lot more. I had no idea that Adulthood is way more than that. It has its sweetness and then it has its draining side.

I won’t deny the fact that I love being an adult, but then most times I just want to be a baby and be in the hands of my mom, not worrying about what I will have for breakfast or dinner. Those times when I wake up and there’s a meal prepared for me already, those times were soothing. Aside from the fact that I didn’t get to make my own decisions and have the freedom to go wherever I wanted to, being a baby wasn’t so hard.

I think I’m at the stage of adulthood where I am trying to balance my relationships, my work life, and my personal life. It is draining sometimes. Some days I will wake up and then I do not feel like doing anything at all. Well, that isn’t possible as I need to be at work. Balancing my relationships, my work, and my personal life hasn’t been easy, most times I feel like I do not have a personal life as I get so busy all day, and then the minute I touch my bed, I am off to sleep.

Talking about responsibilities, I never imagined I would have so many responsibilities at one stage of my life. I didn’t know I would be responsible for my siblings. Sometimes I will make a budget for getting a bag and then just one call from my younger sister, I am sending my bag money to her. I love the fact they call when they need something but then this makes me work harder because why am I older if I can’t give them something they need?

A few days back I had a serious mood swing, I don’t know what was getting me angry but I am sure I felt so stressed, I had lots of things to do and I had to get them done. That is one thing about Adulthood, nobody will do it for you so you have to do it yourself. Adulthood comes with lots of decision making and you need to be careful so you do not make a terrible decision.

When I was little I thought, if I became an adult, I wouldn’t be reading so much and learning because I do not have an exam to write, well that is not the case. I think Adulthood comes with daily lessons, apart from this, I am still learning and reading, most times I read as though I have exams the next day.

Early this year when I was having my New Year’s resolution I said I would be building my social life, I don’t think that is possible because I have lots of things to do and lots of responsibilities right now building my social life is the last thing on my list.

At this point I need a break from Adulthood just for a day, I love the freedom that comes with it but not the responsibilities but I guess I have to stick with both. Adulthood is unpredictable, it is just like the crypto market😁
