A Push To Success

“Are you certain this is your name and result?” Dr. Victor asked me with a shock on his face.

“Yes sir” I answered him smiling.
I could see the shock because he didn’t expect me to graduate with that grade.

Looking at him lost in thoughts I could remember what he made me go through.

If there was one tough phase of my life then it was when I was in the tertiary institution. I had to go through stress to meet my goals. At a point, I felt like it was never going to happen. When they say there is light at the end of the tunnel I think they are talking about my experience in University.

Back in 2021, it was a week to my final project defense where I got to talk about my practical analysis and everything relating to it. During this process, I talked about the results I had gotten from the practical work and other theoretical expectations.

We had a meeting one evening with our Project supervisor Dr. Victor. Where he told us about the do’s and don’ts for our project defense. I felt I had nothing else to do other than study my theoretical work for my topic. Well, so I thought until I heard Dr. Victor call out my name.

” Hope, see me in my office immediately,” he said as he walked out of the class.

If there is one thing I avoid so well is letting a lecturer notice me alone. I had to hope there was no issue because the last time I was at his office, I went to submit my practical results.

” Your practical results are missing and I will require you to do a new topic,” he said with his face showing no emotions at all.

” Sir, it is a week to my defense, I don’t know if that will be possible” I had tears in my eyes already.

” Well, start immediately so you can finish before the slated date. You can leave,” he said as he buried his head in his phone.

I had to cry my eyes all out and then I called my dad who spoke to me and told me I could do it. He made me feel better. At that point, I felt Dr. Victor was sent to spoil my grades and it was the most hectic week for me. Finally, I was able to conclude before the day of the defense and I got a good grade.

” I am so sorry I misplaced your practical topics, you graduated so great even with everything and the stress, I am proud of you,” Dr. Victor said still looking at my result.

” It’s all in the past sir At least you pushed me to work under pressure and right now I feel it’s nothing,” I said to him.

After congratulating me, he took me around the lecturer's offices to let them know that one of his project students was among the best-graduating students.

Gosh look at those testtubes and all that blue, that takes me back!
Well when you have Hope you have a way, so yeah B with the 5 e's there is no doubt that you of anyone could pull it off. But what a lecturer he was, it is as if he deliberately loses results etc and makes you work under stress to fail you!

You showed him and I would expect nothing less, because you can do absolutely anything when you put you mind to something...
Well done 👏

Hmmm this reminds me of what happened to my roommate, she had struggled and spent so much to getting the right results only for her supervisor to ask her to change her topic some weeks to defense
I’m really glad you came out victorious against all odds.

The reader is impressed with your calm demeanor at the end. The professor it seems should had suffered a consequence, not you. And yet, you turned this challenge into a character-building experience. We can imagine the satisfaction you felt at surprising the professor with your success.

This piece would have benefited from greater development. Try to see where you might have filled it in a bit. Generally, we like to curate pieces that are a little more substantial. However, this was an enjoyable read. Thank you for sharing it with us, @beeeee.

Also we require our writers to offer feedback on the stories of at least two other authors in the community. We ask that they do this for every piece submitted. We will be looking forward to reading your comments.
