THE INTERNET IS USEFUL... BUT DANGEROUS TOO

Online Scamming and My Survival Methods

We live in an age where many people would do almost anything to get rich quickly, even when they are unwilling to get a proper job. Some don’t mind going as far as scamming innocent people who wake up every day to work hard for their money, and honestly, I find that extremely wrong in so many ways.

The easiest way these people carry out their activities is through the online space, which is understandable since we now live in a digital world where almost everything happens online. Because of this, learning how to protect yourself online has become very important.

Yes, I have encountered online scam attempts before. Actually, not just once. It has happened on different occasions and in different forms. Luckily for me, these are some precautions I take that have helped me stay safe.

1. Never Share Your OTP

I never send my OTP (One Time Password) to anyone at all.

There are cases where a random OTP enters your phone and shortly after, someone calls pretending to be customer care trying to “help” you fix an issue with your account. Never fall for that.

I repeat: NEVER share your OTP with anyone.

I once avoided a scam through this exact method, so I’m speaking from experience.

2. Always Confirm Sensitive Requests

When a family member or acquaintance suddenly messages you online asking for money or sensitive information, try to confirm properly first.

Call them directly or use another means of communication to verify it’s truly them. Sometimes, their accounts may have been hacked, and someone else could be behind the messages.

3. Research Before Buying Online

Before making purchases online, please do your findings properly.

Some people pretend to be sellers when they are actually scammers. Once you send the money, they disappear or block you immediately.

Check reviews, ask questions, and verify their credibility before paying for anything.

4. Be Careful of Random Links

Not every attractive link is genuine.

Some links promising giveaways, bonuses, or unbelievable offers are simply traps designed to gain access to your device or personal information.

One careless click can create serious problems, so always think twice before opening suspicious links.

Honestly, online scams hurt deeply because these people usually operate without conscience. But the good thing is that you can protect yourself against them.

They are not magicians, they are simply smart people taking advantage of careless mistakes.

So the best thing you can do is stay informed, stay careful, and operate smartly online.
