Books and Vegetables... Do we really need much more ?

avatar

Hello dear Hivers ! Another week is coming to an end and it's a good opportunity for me to go shopping in anticipation of the weekend so that it can really serve what it's supposed to be, a time-out :)

Between today and yesterday, I went to collect all my favorite things, if you've been reading me for a while, you won't be surprised to learn once again that these are books and food, something to feed your body and your mind !

IMG_5422.JPG

I started with books in a big shop not far from the St Lazare train station, in the north west of Paris... I'm usually more into small bookstores, but let's not lie, it's still very good when you're looking for different books with a bit of precision ! It's always better than buying online.

IMG_5391.JPG

Still with the idea of moving forward with our house search and assuming we were building, I wanted to look at books on the subject. Construction and renovation then.

Here are the ones I took pictures of to weigh up the pros and cons... I did take two books, but none of them are among these. For the simple reason that I received a call from a friend while I was there who wanted to give me books on the same subject, so I preferred to wait and I think you will have done the same !

livres.jpg

IMG_5416.JPG

I set off again towards the hill of Montmartre with the idea of continuing to stock up on vegetables...

IMG_5423.JPG

IMG_5425.JPG

On my way, I come across this bakery and these delicacies, especially the marzipan pigs that I already found in my childhood... But in the end, I resist the temptation haha and only buy a modest and very classic baguette !

IMG_5426.JPG

IMG_5522.JPG

In front of this other shop with such a tempting front, I continue to resist... To tell you the truth, I don't even go in because I know I might give in for one of those jars !

The thought that goes with this one is that since I learned how to make preserves, I much prefer to make them than to buy them, even if in the case of oil preserves, it is sometimes easier...

IMG_5514.JPG

It's silly, but I end up giving in for this derisory element... A concrete wick, not so absurd after all, because it allows me to go and hang paintings in private homes !

IMG_5477.JPG

IMG_5480.JPG

All this is achieved in just a few hours of moderate effort. What more could you ask for ?

IMG_5518.JPG

After a visit to a greengrocer where I didn't have the presence of mind to take pictures. I was too busy talking to the salesmen and selecting my vegetables, I make up for it when I get home...

IMG_5430.JPG

IMG_5436.JPG

So you'll have seen the two books I would have ended up buying, the one on the left is about electricity generation and the second is my favorite book about Buddhism, Nagarjuna's The Middle Way Treatise which I want to give to a relative. I can't recommend it enough !

The rest is my vegetables, squash, carrots and a cauliflower.

IMG_5467.JPG

But there are also these tender and beautifully colored chard !

IMG_5462.JPG

And these first Sicilian clementines... Absolutely delicious even if they don't look very ripe.

It was a very well run Friday market, with some nice stops! I hope you enjoyed this one :)

Don't hesitate if you have any questions, thank you for reading and taking the time to visit. A big thank you also to @dswigle for this great #MarketFriday community !

I wish you all a great weekend,

<3

Bonjour chers Hivers !

<3

I looking forward to your review of Nagarjuna. I know nothing about Buddhism, but Nagarjuna is slightly familiar cause I know a little mythology in India. Are they have a similarity?

For me, books and vegetables is a basis for a life, so, sure we need them :D

Nice share!

Hey @viviehardika :)

All right you decided me to write one as I wanted to do since a long time ! Do you want that I mention you ?

I don’t know about the mythological Nagarjuna but I will search for sure, very interesting 🤔..!

Thanks for your visit, I’m glad you enjoyed it. Have a nice weekend ahead ✌🏼

Your post reminded me, it's been a while since I didn't go to the bookshop!

The veggies look so fresh. I hope you had a good day.

It was indeed a very pleasant day ;-)

I feel quite the same about libraries and bookshops, when it’s too long, it’s too long..!

Thanks you for your visit 😊 I wish you a good weekend !

I love vegetables and fruits because, a diet high in fruits and vegetables can lower blood pressure, and lower the risk of heart disease and stroke.
It can also lessen the risk of certain forms of cancer, and lower the risk of eye and digestive issues.

For sure ! My logic is, if it's natural (like really natural, not processed) how could it be bad ? This could be not applicable about tobacco for example, but fruits and vegetables ?

Thanks for your input ! Be well and enjoy your Sunday ✌️

A good friend used to always say "as long as we have enough to eat, the rest is an extra". books are probably the first priority extra one can ask for.
wishing us all a peaceful weekend.

I'll put Nagarjuna on my ( future ) reading list. Merci!

You’re welcome ! So much books to read haha ! Do you have a hierarchical list by order of importance and connection between topics and authors ?

I hope you’re doing well 🤞🏼

No, I read and have read way too much for that. Also, I'm not really a list person, although I often tried to make ones. I like ( creative) chaos and randomness.

These days, since a couple of years, I also read several books at once. I don't have the patience any longer to finish one before I start another. And then I have my own book(s) to work on ;^)

Bom fim de semana! Enjoy your weekend!

I know that well, I am rather like that, but I learned to tame the lists, that is to say that I decide a little when to follow them... or not ^^ !

I also love to read several books at the same time, never the same 'type' of reading, but yes, I always have 3 or 4 open...

And then I have my own book(s) to work on ;^)

Yes, I know that too... Even though I've been working less lately, it's been on my mind a lot !

Merci,
everything is nice and I hope you're enjoying it too <3

First off, thank you once again for being part of #MarketFriday. I apologize for running so late again! I read it as soon as it came in and upvoted it, but, so many comments came in and the weekend was filled with hiking, so I put it off! How horrible, yes?

I had not read The Middle Way Treatise and it really looked interesting, so I found it at a used bookstore for $8.00 and considered that a bargain. It was downtown, and the rain made me call rather than go there and hope it was there. It is currently on hold for the next two days. Still, Yay! I found it.

What an adventure, every time you walk out your door. How fun to trail behind you and see what you see - of course, a huge advantage reading about it as we have thoughts included. I would be so tempted at the Bakery, such delectable treats inside! I don't trust myself to not be tempted. Oh, the sights, the sounds!

Le sigh.

The larger bookstores work at times, I do not discriminate, although I will try to support small businesses. Sharing good reads is important.

Those clementines are like oranges that my sister sends me fresh. They are not orange, but a mix of orange and much green. They are ripe, but they turn orange with a wash they give them when selling commercially. Pretty fruit.

Your pictures enhance the words you write. Thank you, so very much. I think it is important that you know how much I appreciate the time and effort put into posts. Thank you for your participating in #MarketFriday! I enjoy learning about your world and how it is to live in it. I find it interesting to compare standards, but, more than standards, by how we find the quality of our life with different indicators that the world does. It is not always about the wealth in money, but includes many other things including being as healthy as possible, being educated, but, not necessarily in school. I feel like a person is educated if they aquire knowledge and use it for the better good and happiness of the society they are living in. It is with great pleasure that I read through this and all of the posts, with these thoughts in mind.

I want to thank you for giving me the opportunity to get to know you and your piece of the world just a little bit better. I have learned so much about the different cultures of the world, I especially love the small things in life and make a point to give them notice. Life has been interesting for me this week, and I hope your week has found you happy and healthy, as we all look to prosper in our way of life.

I have learned so much about all of you and it has been an amazing experience. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world. Please take the time to read a couple #MarketFriday posts and leave a genuine comment behind. It is important to interact within the community, allowing for others to bond with each other. The fun is in getting to know people and making a positive contribution to community life. I am pretty sure that is why I joined Hive. All this fun and money too. What if not to love?

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

  1. Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service. It can be a movie, an auction, or even a museum. Wherever money is exchanged for a service or product.
    Take pictures! Be creative!
  2. Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost? Was it expensive? Did it go up or down? A scroll of pictures with few words doesn't usually work.
  3. Post the pictures. Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post, it is too difficult to guess about some.
  4. Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post (#hive-196308) This is not required but appreciated.
PLEASE Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it!!
  5. Following me and reblogging the post would be appreciated, but not a rule, more vision for more views on the #MarketFriday posts!
    7. You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post.

As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!

Hi there dear @dswingle !

No problem at all for being late, I tend to be too... but I always reply haha !

That’s nice that you found the book :) I wrote a sort of review few days ago about it. It’s those kind of practices that gave me the « detail thing », everyday, everything can turn into a fantastic and almost metaphysical adventure !

I tend to have difficulties to refrain myself sometimes, even more with the coming winter ^^ Concerning my shopping, I always prefer little business too... but sometimes, it could be rather complicated... mostly to stay patient !

Those clementines were delicious and you’re making me curious about those oranges... never seen or tasted some :)

Thanks you as always for your visit, I really enjoy your idea, formidable and so nice to be able to visit foreign countries that way !

Have a good day, I hope you’re doing well 🍀
