POBphotocontest: Caring for My Mother's Desert Rose

This will be my first time participating in the #pobphotocontest promoted by @friendlymoose. I confess that it took me a while to participate, but I hope that this entry will be the first of many. For those who are also interested in participating, I ask that you read more details here. But I can tell you in advance that this week, the theme of the round is Flowers and every Sunday, a new theme is proposed.

To begin, I will tell you why I chose my flower. For those who don't know, this flower is known here in Brazil as Desert Rose. Maybe it also has this name abroad, but from what little I know, it is originally from the Middle East and Africa. But due to climate issues here in the country, it has adapted very well.

Interestingly, it comes in several colors and I only knew the color white, besides pink. Since pink is the most common, it is very rare to see other colors and, to be honest, I have never found any other colors here in my region other than the ones I mentioned. But on the internet, I saw that the orange and multicolored colors are also very beautiful. And if you have one in your house, I would like to see what it looks like in a backyard.

Taking Care of My Mother's Flowers

My mother is retired, just like my father, and they sometimes travel. Since I live near their house, I always have the responsibility of taking care of my mother's plants, since planting is also a hobby of mine. Unlike my mother, I like planting vegetables and fruits the most, because I think it is incredible whenever I can harvest anything I plant and this connection with nature is a gift from God.

On their last trip, I had to take care of their garden. The desert rose was one of my mother's concerns because it was about to open its flower buds and my mother couldn't see it before she left. So I wanted to take the best care of it so that she could see it up close when she returned from her trip. Since it is quite hot in my region at a certain time of the year, if we don't water the plants at least two or even three times a day, they suffer from the excessive heat.

So after a few days, the flowers finally started to appear and I always think they are beautiful, even though I don't have a desert rose at home. Maybe one day I will and I realized that it is not that difficult to create a change of it and my mother had prepared a change for my aunt and I also needed to take good care of it so it wouldn't die due to the heat.

In the end, everything worked out. My parents came back from their trip and I was able to keep her plants alive and she was able to see the lines of flowers of the desert rose up close. 😁
