Three Languages of Simplicity

(edited)

After reading the current #kiss, I paused to think about the kind of adjectives I would use to describe my lifestyle and experience as a minimalist, and I definitely got more than three but one thing I realized was how they were very synonymous and interconnected.

From my experience and what I’ve seen, I believe an ideal minimalist is elegant. Elegant was actually the very first word that came to mind and I must say this even goes beyond how a person dresses. To simplify this, I would just say this is about not doing too much in terms of dressing, talking, being around people.

When it comes to dressing, a minimalist never overdresses but is always presentable, and knows how to still make a statement with less. When it comes relating with people, she/he is very mindful of the words she/he utters and certainly does not cross boundaries.

Efficient. This particular one made me smile because it reminded me of how resourceful I’ve become in the kitchen. I’ve even learned new recipes just to be able to utilize leftover foodstuff in order to avoid wasting food. I believe this is actually a package that comes with a minimalist lifestyle.

One thing I think every minimalist does is to avoid waste in every way possible. And this makes us very efficient as we are able to utilize whatever limited resources we have available to our advantage and still achieve our aim at the end of the day.

To crown it all, I believe minimalists have liberated lifestyle. Think of it, yeah? Minimalists declutter both mentally and physically. That means we don’t really have to deal with the discomfort that comes with having so many things around or having a congested, untidy environment. Same applies to the mental part.

A minimalist doesn’t walk around carrying unnecessary mental burdens, grudges and drama. We always embrace mental clarity to have free minds. I can attest to this particular adjective because ever since I chose to live a minimalist lifestyle, you’d never catch me overthinking about something that doesn’t even concern or find me involved in drama of any sort.

Each time I talk about minimalism, I’m always excited to have lived a very opposite lifestyle some years back. This makes it easier to know and be so sure of what I’m talking about as I get to look back, reflect and even feel proud of the choices I’m making now.
