A Christmas Themed Three Tune Tuesday!

Christmas Eve is already here, as hard to believe as it is. At least for me anyway... This year has really flown by for me.

From the header you already know I'm venturing into my usual Tuesday post of #threetunetuesday. First off I want to thank @ablaze for starting and continuing to sponsor this fun weekly event. I think this week we will be seeing a lot of Christmas related music with the big day coming up tomorrow. And rather than fight it, I'll go along and do the same. But first up I want to share an item to help me lead into my first song of the day. As a member of Silver Gold Stackers it's always fun to share some holiday themed silver or gold. I honestly don't have many, but this is one I've shared in the past and is a cool silver round. I picked this up in Texas, of all places, many long years ago. It may look old and discolored, but that's what I love about it. I'm not even sure who manufactured it or when, but have a gander:

Pretty cool isn't it? It's definitely got some age to it!

So you may ask what does a silver round with Silver Bells of Christmas on it have to do with Three Tune Tuesday? It's an obvious lead into my first tune of the day "Silver Bells". There are so many different covers of the original song written by Jay Livingston and Ray Evans, and first performed by Bing Crosby in 1950. I considered several versions including one by Elvis Presley before deciding on the version for today. But in the end the heavy metal version by Twisted Sister won out. Most of you are probably rolling your eyes right about now, but give it a chance. It's not Bing Crosby or even The Carpenters, but it's pretty good.

The video quality isn't perfect, I found a better one out of Russia but you might get region restricted, so I stuck with YouTube. In typical Twisted Sister style they make the video a slap stick comedy.

First up just a little about the band, they formed in 1972 in New Jersey. It took them until 1984 before they hit the mainstream with their album "Stay Hungry". Over the years they have come together and disbanded multiple times, and are presently on hiatus. But in 2006 they produced a Christmas album featuring "Silver Bells". Have a listen:

Next up I decided to throw in a little 90's style punk rock that my friend @geneeverett will enjoy. Blink-182 formed in California in 1992. They have gone on to be punk legends with hit after hit. In 1997 they recorded this song as a radio promotion but became popular enough that it was released in 2001 as a single and charted well in Canada but nowhere else. This is "I Won't Be Home For Christmas":

Alice Cooper

Now moving very far away from traditional Christmas music I decided to add in the master of horror and shock rock, Alice Cooper. He started his career in Phoenix, Arizona in 1964, his career has spanned 60 years. By 1970 he had established himself as singer/ songwriter with many hits in the top ten on the charts. Being a huge fan of horror movies he decided to produce a Christmas song that was the antithesis of Santa Clause. The song is "Santa Claws is Coming to Town", if you aren't a fan of horror movies you may want to skip this one!

Nat King Cole

Now for a bonus tune and some true Christmas music with Nat King Cole. Cole started his career as a jazz pianist in the late 1930's and went on to become a true music legend. Although he died at age 45 in 1965, he had produced some incredible songs that I would bet most everybody has heard at one time or another. The album I have always know best by him is "The Magic of Christmas" recorded in 1960. My mother used to play this record over and over near Christmas when I was growing up, so it's a bit nostalgic for me. Here is the lead off song for the album, "Deck The Hall":

I hope you enjoyed some or all of the songs I picked out today, they are a bit unorthodox for Christmas except for the last one I am aware.
