Hola, querido hiver.

Hi, dear hiver.
Yesterday I was barely able to do my usual Hive tasks. At my parents' house the mobile data coverage came and went at times, so I had to limit myself to voting for the odd post to keep the manna from filling up, and that's about it. Besides, they were moments to enjoy. They are getting older and can give us a scare at any moment. That's why, now that they are still well, I want to be more present with them.
Today, then, it's my turn to catch up on what I didn't get to yesterday. Years ago this situation would have got on my nerves and I would have been anxious from the crack of dawn. Today, on the other hand, I have remained calm and have set about solving each task one after the other. The world doesn't end because I don't reply to a comment or because I don't reply two days later. I have to remind myself of this because the catastrophic tendency is still there, it is important for me to leave these written testimonies of my progress.
When you are given disturbing news, keep in mind that there is no news about anything of agency. Can anyone give you the news that you made a wrong guess or a clumsy wish? Not at all. But that "someone died". What has that got to do with you?
Epictetus.
In these times we live surrounded by news that assail us from all sides. Most of them are negative, because the media need to appeal to our emotions to capture our attention. Studies have shown that good news does not sell.
Although it may seem to us that this is a recent phenomenon, today's quote puts us, once again, in the picture. As social beings, we are receptive to what is happening beyond our immediate surroundings. We know there are other realities and we are curious about them. Moreover, if the news we hear about them is tragic, the desire to know increases. It is not something that modern man has invented, the only thing that has changed is the scale of the quantity. Which, mind you, is not a trivial detail.
The danger lies in worrying about what lies beyond our circle of influence. People die every second and the harsh reality is that there is nothing we can do to save them from their fate. Instead, we have a hard work ahead of us in improving what is around us, what is within our zone of control. Let no one deceive us into blocking the view of what is close to us by placing screens in front of our eyes with the image of what is distant and unreachable.
The one who treats with kindness those he comes across in his life is as good as the one who goes on missions to the other side of the globe. We can be missionaries in our community, with family, neighbours and friends. It is about doing our duty to leave a nicer world than the one we were born into.
Morning: walk in the park, housework, content curation, writing.
