Yellow sorrel or Oxalis corniculata
Blink and you might miss it! Yes, this little plant can be very small and easily overlooked while walking along the pavement.
I spotted it today by the side of a residential road. The bright yellow flowers caught my eye in the sunshine.
The plant grows anywhere and is quite happy on the dryish edge of the path growing in the gaps between the paving slabs. Gardeners consider it a pest and often remove it from flower beds , but I think it is another example of a cute miniature wild flower! 😉
The leaves are quite reddish here but they can be bright green and the plant does grow to about 15 inches in the right conditions.
To get a perspective on the size, the flowers are about 1cm across, so quite small but pretty nonetheless.
