During the school run to help out today, we passed a few yew trees along the way. Some years these small fir trees can be absolutely smothered with berries, however this year is a little disappointing. Strange, as many other fruit bearing trees and shrubs have had a bumper year.
The Yew is not an edible plant though, and the berries are poisonous to humans. 😒. They do look delicious, but do not touch! 😄
I'm not sure if birds can eat them either. They don't seem to get eaten by any animals actually, and always fall to the ground to be trodden under foot.
So much for the berries 😄. I spotted an elderberry tree, and that was smothered in bunches of black berries. These are edible but not for eating raw as they are very sour. They do make delicious wine though.
