Mill Pond life : My Actifit Report Card: August 10 2026

Wildlife at the Ifield Mill Pond was very subdued today. Probably due to the heat, although today the temperature was a little lower than of late at around 28°. We are expecting higher values over the next week.

Everything seemed very still and even the geese were laying down in the shade.

I love this place. It is always nice to walk the boardwalk across the pond. You get a feeling of pure serenity and peace, especially on a day like this!

There were a group of seagulls in the middle of the lake. I think they were black headed gulls, just floating there quietly. 😊. I felt like jumping in and joining them! 😂

We walk here a lot and it wont be long before we are back.

On a sad note: their only appeared to be one cygnet left now. The young birds are quite large now, although still grey in colour, so it is unclear why the disappeared.

So out of two adult birds and six cygnets, now only one parent and one cygnet remains of the swan family. Such a shame but that is nature for you!
