Ardingly Reservoir : My Actifit Report Card: July 23 2026

I took a very hilly cycle ride to Ardingly Reservoir today, keeping to gravel tracks, bridalways and minor roads as usual. It was quite a roller coaster of a ride as the elevation chart shows.

The water level was obviously quite low but not as low as I had imagined it would be. In some places it looked worse than others due to the slope of the bank.

Wild plants are quick to make use of the bare soil and make the banks look green from a distance.

On my return journey, I passed through a swamp area usually very wet with a gang plank across it. The ground here was dry! I could have walked across without the bridge. 😆

All of this will of course return to normal when the weather decides to change the wind direction to south westerly, bringing rain again.

Even now, after such a long dry spell, there is water flowing down the spillway from an adjoining lake. Things are not as serious as they might seem at first sight.
