So, I was back in Guildford again today. My @actifit step count is high because in fact I walked the two miles into town and back from the Royal Surrey Hospital. I was a nice dry day with a little sunshine at times.
As I walked along the river towards Millmead lock I spotted a narrowboat approaching. That was a great opportunity to watch and take some pictures of them negotiating the lock.

Closing the gates behind the boat before releasing the water to lower the level.

Winching up the doors to release the water from the lock into the river.

A picture of the boat entering the lock. I didn't get a picture of the boat exiting the lock but you get the picture!
The two guys on the boat told me they have many of these locks to get through today on their journey. A lot of work and can take a while if there is a queue of boats! 😮

Lastly, a picture of the wier. The reason for the lock so that boats can bypass this obstacle.
