A ride before the rain! : My Actifit Report Card: May 2 2026

Rain was forecast for today, heavy rain. But that was not due until about 5pm, giving me ample time to get in a ride of some sort. I had other things to get out of the way before I could get out though and didnt leave until 1.30pm. As it turned out just enough time for a couple of hours fun. 😁.

I headed for a long bridalway which tracks through a farmyard. This was to be part of a longer planned ride for the future and I needed to check it out. I passed a massive pile of scrap wood. Looks like the farmer is planning to have a nice bonfire! πŸ˜†.

Sadly, as I got to the farm buildings, the track was blocked by a large patch of giant hogweed! This weed is dangerous to touch, giving a rather nasty painful rash so there was no chance of trying to clear my path at all. The giant hogweed can reach eight to ten feet tall when fully grown. These were only young plants but the path was impossible to pass through. I had to find an alternative route. πŸ€”.

After carefully checking the map I found a suitable footpath to get me out onto the road and homeward bound. The bike I was using today has a carbon frame and is really light making lifting over stiles very easy πŸ‘Œ.

The approaching storm was having an effect. It felt humid and quite warm at one point. Very nice.

I passed through some lovely countryside today. The fields were looking very lush and healthy except for one, which looked as if it had been deliberately poisoned. The vegetation was dead. It has been dry for a while but not that dry! πŸ˜„

The footpaths took me through some varied scenery, some narrow tracks, then across open fields. It was very uneven here. Parts of this route were unridable, due to the rough and rock hard ground.

I finally got home just as the first rain drops started to fall. Now that's good timing! πŸ˜„
