I thought I would share with you today a curious landscape feature with a funny name. The feature is called a 'ha ha' and seems to be an old english name for a wall and ditch to keep livestock and wild animals away from garden areas.
There is a convenient plaque with information about this particular feature in Worth Park, which is the former grounds and gardens of an old manor house, long since demolished to make way for a block of flats!
Looking out from the gardens area towards the open meadow, the ha ha is hidden quite well from view, which gives the illusion of a smooth transition from garden to meadow.
