All hail the Malawi women's national football team nicknamed the Scorchers. Their fairytale journey in the ongoing WAFCON championship has become something historical. Paired in the same group with the defending champions the Super Falcons of Nigeria, Zambia and Egypt they did not shy away from making a big statement.

Their first group game match game against the defending champions Nigeria. They stunned the Super Falcons by (3-2). As if that was not enough their next game was against Egypt. They also brushed aside the Cleopatras of Egypt by (3-1). And even though they lost their last group game match against Zambia who desperately needed to win by (2-1) Malawi ended as the group winners with 6pts.
It was then that people started taking them seriously. They were paired with the Black Queens of Ghana for the quarterfinal. The Scorchers produced yet another masterstroke as they cruised past their Ghanaian counterpart by (2-1) thus earning a semifinal spot against the Fennec Foxes of Algeria.
By that same win, they have booked an automatic place for the world cup in Brazil. And should they overcome Algeria, they'll have one hand in the trophy - all in their maiden outing.
Will they go ahead and win the trophy. Only time will tell.
That's it for now. Thanks for reading up to this point. Until next time, I say, keep exercising.
