My Actifit Report Card: July 19 2026
The 2026 FIFA World Cup has come and gone with a lot of fanfare and the memories it evokes. A new champion has emerged and by now most of the outstanding players will be entertaining suitors from various notable clubs in the world. Some may be tempted to jump ship and try out new challenges with new clubs while others will stick with their current clubsides.
Everyone had expected the reigning champions Argentina to retain their crown but the current European champions Spain came to the party with other better ideas.
It took Ferran Torres' extra-time strike to finally brake the resistance of 10-man Argentina who had seen Enzo Fernandez sent off for a second yellow card in stoppage time for a foul on Pau Cubarsi.
With Spain winning the men's world cup it means they have become the first nation ever to be men's and women's world champions at the same time. That's incredible.
Several individual awards were won by players who excelled during the tournament. These includes the following categories:
- Golden Boot Award: Kylian Mbappe – France.
French captain Kylian Mbappe can be said to be the best striker in the world with the most World Cup goals in history (22) and the most at this year's tournament (10). Mbappe's 10 goals and 4 assists edged out the Argentine Messi’s 8 goals and 4 assists to win the coveted award. Mbappe has now won the award a record two times now.
- Golden Ball award: Rodri – Spain
Spain's captain and midfielder Rodri bagged the Golden Ball award, given to the best overall player in the tournament.
- Golden Glove award: Unai Simon – Spain.
The Spanish goal tender Simon who was preferred in goal to Arsenal's David Raya finished with seven clean sheets, two more than the previous record for a single World Cup. With seven clean sheets in eight games, it's hard to argue against him for the award. He beat other contenders like Argentine's goalkeeper Emilliano Martinez who made 20 saves. Simon however conceded only once throughout their whole campaign making him indisputable for the award.
- Best Young Player Award: Pau Cubarsi – Spain
Pau Cubarsi was voted as the best young player of the tournament.
- FIFA Fair Play Award: The Netherlands
The Oranje Boys of The Netherlands are the eighth team to take home the award after recording only three yellow cards at this edition of the world cup.
