My Actifit Report Card: July 7 2026
Don't Cry For Me Argentina! was already loading in my mind when I saw the Pharaohs of Egypt were (2-0) up against the three times and reigning world champions Argentina.
But a combined and sustained pressure by Argentina in the second half of the game saw the champions produce a stunning comeback to deny Egypt a crucial victory and an advancement in the tournament.
Despite the missed penalty by Lionel Messi in the first half as Argentina held on to defeat Egypt by (3-2).
Later in the day, Colombia, despite their football finesse could not overcome Switzerland in regular time and even after extra time. The winner had to be decided via penalty kicks.
Gregor Kobel, the Switzerland goalkeeper turned hero on the night as he pushed away Cucho Hernandez's penalty kick after centre-backs from both sides (Davinson Sanchez and Manuel Akanji) had earlier missed. Switzerland won the shootout (4-3) to advance to the next phase. They'll meet Argentina in the quarter-finals.
