Love, February.

I shouldn’t bow to stereotypes. I’m sure by the time the month is over, everyone would practically be sick of love and the various connotations and placed/misplaced meanings people would give it. But can I help it? I’m a lover girl by nature and as much as I find some aspects of this month irritating, I can’t wait to see and experience this month of love. Through my eyes, the eyes of my loved ones and even through the eyes of absolute strangers.

It’s quite amusing to me how everyone is practically in a frenzy already. The tension and the pressure that is already mounting on partners to do and outdo. The “unintentional” misunderstandings and fights that will ensue because partners are trying to avoid “fulfilling” their duties significant other’s demands. It’s a month that promises laughter, excitement, tears – both the happy and sorrow-filled ones. The whole shebang.

I do not have too many wishes of this month. I can’t be that pretentious to say I’m not expecting some thoughtful gesture, whether grand or not, and from the way the month is already looking, I may be foreseeing a Valentine’s day just as stereotypical yet beautiful like the others. But I also have expectations of this month. Just how much we would be willing to give more than we receive. And this is not necessarily material things, but other ways of showing love.

There shouldn’t be a particular month where we’re kind to people. Have a smile on our face ready to light up someone’s day, or offer help in the simplest ways that would make people still believe in the goodness of humanity. There shouldn’t be a particular period for that. It’s something that should be second nature to us. And no, I do not expect that we’d always have a smile on our faces. Why, there are days I do not much as crack a smile, unless someone is smiling at me, that is.

So yeah, there are bad days where we can’t give our all, but if situations arise and we’re in the position to help, helping is not bad. This month should have something other than the regular, shallow meaning. How to show and give yourself love. How to be love in itself to those we love and care about. How to make someone’s day and all of that. It’s not hard, neither is it too much of an expectation, if we’re intentional about it.

That being said, I have two not so on-topic songs. I was simply going through my blues playlist and stumbled on two songs by Craig David that I love. I’m more of a rhythm girl. So, even before I analyse the lyrics of a song, I’d have already fallen in love with it for its rhythm alone.The first song was one I saw my Uncle and his fiancée now wife dance to once. I’d been a bit young and I thought that the way they looked into each other’s eyes like they were only ones in the world was the most beautiful thing to exist.

This second one is simply one I binged on for a few weeks on end. Craig David outdid himself with these two and I love that I’m able to share them with you today. Hopefully, not too many people like them so that they would keep being my special songs. Hehe. Have a love-filled February, you all.
