Phone Photography Contest - #71

Hello everyone,

Last week, I had a short trip to Johor during my wife’s off day. Normally, we’d just hang around at JBCC (Johor Bahru City Centre), but since our favorite restaurant wasn’t open, we decided to visit another mall that had the same restaurant branch. It only took us about 15 minutes by bus from JBCC, and the fare was just 35 cents .

To my surprise, the mall was much more crowded than I expected. It seemed to be quite popular with Singaporeans — maybe because of the wider food selection and the fact that many items were much cheaper compared to the usual mall we go to.

But today, I’m not here to talk about the mall. Instead, I want to share a little story about reconnecting with some old friend .

So, in one of my old WhatsApp groups (which is now pretty quiet, unlike our other more active one), I decided to drop a photo and tag the oldest member of the group. His name is Ruey and we called him Doc Ruey because he’s a retired doctor and, like me, also enjoys photography.

Now you can probably guess why this photo sparked a conversation in the group. I joked that maybe the reason he’s been so quiet in the chat is because he’s too busy managing his business empire .

He replied to my joke, admitting that yes, he’s been quite busy handling several outlet branches. He even asked me to support him by buying something from one of his shops. Looks like my random photo ended up reconnecting us and gave us all a good laugh in the group!

It felt really good that a simple photo could spark such a fun conversation in a group that’s been quiet for quite some time. I guess I just need to play around a bit more and help bring the group back to life — make it livelier and merrier again.
