Eight Years on Hive: The journey so far

It's seems like a long time when you talk about 8 years and just give it another 2 years and that's a decade. That's how long have been on Hive and deep down, I am super proud of it. It simply means I have dedicated my time and attention towards one thing for over 8 years and definitely I will make it a decade and more.

It is worth talking about because it hasn't been all exciting from the beginning to the current position I find myself. Many have come, had a good run and left when it was not all rosy but I have stuck around through the thicks and thins and still around for what's next. This goes to speak about my consistency and dedication. I am a strong advocator for small wins, and little drops building a large ocean. Right from reading Atomic Habits from James Clear where I got to understand doing something no matter how small can become a habit after being done for a long time.

This is what it has been for me. At this moment, I can say I have been consistent with making posts on Hive, contributing to the block chain and highlighting more people about Hive through onboarding of chess players in the chess community. Over time I have contributed to the chess community by creating another chess tournament where winners where awarded Hive for their victories in the tournament. Time flies when I come to think about it.

Kicking off on Hive eight years ago, I didn't have rewards and recognition crossing my mind at that time as I earned close to zero even when I posted every time. I was simply fascinated by the idea of expressing my thoughts and playing chess while sharing my chess journey. It was interesting to know it was decentralized where I didn't have to worry about being forgotten by an algorithm or keep struggling for recognition. All I had to do what talk about my thoughts, my movies, my chess games and now it has always been the same way. If at that time, a fortune teller told me I would be here 8 years later, the best answer I would have given us that fortune teller definitely on crack. But now here I am.

I guess the secret as to be not being hung up on what you can make rather it should be what you have to share. They say if you love what you do, you will never work for a day or however it was said. Well for me it has become my work and I enjoy, at least my consistency for 8 years says it all.

Also it hasn’t been all chess. The Nigerian hangout came to life when I decided it was time for us to share our thoughts, not being all formal and polished, not that is bad, but sometimes we want to get rid of the caged bird instinct and just let our thoughts fly. Through that it has proven that the presence of people is what keeps a community going and that has been the story of Sam's hangout. We share our opinions, catch with friends and simply just be ourselves. It's been fun for all and even better now with a discord channel.

Lastly I got the Hive creator awards for lifestyle and personal stories which goes to show that people will notice, just keep going and that is what I will keep doing. At some point in my biography, Hive will be the highlight of a turning point in my life and I am forever grateful. I can go on and on, but I’d stop here. Till next year!
