The Power of Perspective: Capturing Horses from Above with the DJI Mini 3 Pro

So, here’s the deal. I’ve walked by this field a dozen times where these horses are just living their best lives—running around, playing, doing their horse thing. And every time, I’d think, “Man, this would be epic from the sky.” So, I finally decided to take the DJI Mini 3 Pro out for a spin and see if I could capture the magic from above.

Now, I know what you’re thinking—why not the Air2S? But here’s the thing: the horses are curious creatures, and I didn’t want to freak them out with something too intense. The Mini 3 Pro was the perfect choice—small, less intimidating, and still packs a punch when it comes to capturing crisp, detailed shots.

As soon as I got the drone in the air, the horses immediately noticed. But instead of running away, they were more like, “What’s this new toy?” They were curious, but not scared. It was almost like they wanted to play with it. I’ll be honest, it was a little windy, and that made flying a bit tricky. I had to land sooner than I wanted, but hey, you’ve got to know when to play it safe.

But let’s talk about the results. I managed to get some killer shots before calling it a day. The birds-eye view of these majestic creatures against the lush green field? Pure gold. It’s moments like these that remind me why I love drone photography—there’s something about seeing the world from a different perspective that just hits different.

I’m definitely going back, hopefully on a calmer day, to see what more I can capture. But for now, I’m pretty damn pleased with these shots. If you’ve got a drone and some time, I highly recommend finding a spot like this. It’s not just about the photos—it’s about experiencing the world from a new angle and appreciating the beauty that’s right in front of you. And trust me, it’s worth it.

Get out there, explore, and always be curious. That’s where the magic happens.

This weekend, I flew the drone near some cattle, and they were quite scared, as well as curious. The most interesting thing was that they ran across the pasture in fear of the drone.

You took some great photos!

Thank you!
Yeah, I’ve also noticed that it differs from animal to animal (or group to group perhaps?). That’s why I always fly to them on a great height, and then slowly come down to see how they respond. If I see they are getting scared, I go back up and leave them alone. Don’t want to scare the poor animals ;-)
With this herd however, I was extremely lucky, as they were very playful!

It was the first time I got close,I didn't imagine they would get scared haha. I also think the reaction varies from animal to animal.

Laughing at myself. I guess I'm not fully awake yet or sitting too far from screen. I originally read the title as "cutting horses from above" and expected to see video of you herding them around like a sheepdog lol. Glad you weren't chasing them, but the idea is a thought. I wonder if farmers could use drones to do some of their herding, say finding lost singles and herding them back to safety. I'll have to search a bit, I'm sure someone has tried it somewhere.
Great pics!

Badass shots, @borniet! I grew up on a thoroughbred horse (race horses), so it's always cool to see them pop up! 😁 🙏 💚 ✨ 🤙

!INDEED !!! You told me about the horse before :-) I must admit that I’ve only rode a horse a few times in my life, and for the rest mostly work with them from behind a camera :-D
But I do totally like and appreciate them!!!
