Build A CA Bronze League Earth Team for $12!

Hello Splinterlands summoners! I wanted to write a series of posts for players who started Splinterlands in the Frontier and want to compete seriously in Modern Mode. We'll build a starting team that can compete in Bronze League to lower Silver. I'll limit the cards to Conclave Arcana set only since a new mini set will come soon and Rebellion might move to Wild Mode in the near future. In today's post, I'll start with the Earth splinter which is my favorite bloodline. The team we will build will have the necessary roles to build a team synergy. I'll not limit the cards to Earth team only as we want to take advantage of the archon's Bloodline Dominion ability.

Kaylia Silverleaf (Archon)

Kaylia is the Earth archon. She decreases the enemy's magic attack and grants the strong Execute ability to all elves. I suggest starting with a level two archon to be competitive in Bronze. This will allow you to summon higher level units that have more stats and abilities.

Folen Flameye (Tank)

Folen Flameye is the main tank in the Earth splinter. He deals three melee damage at level one. He also has eight health and three speed. For abilities, he has Flank which will allow you to have a second melee tank in second position. I often combo him with Warborn Chieftain but he's a Rebellion card that I didn't include in this build. One BCX is good enough for our build that costs sixty cents.

Silverleaf Mage (Taunt)

I often build my teams with a Taunt unit as part of my strategy. It draws attacks away from the tank and damage dealers. The Silverleaf Mage fulfills this role and is also a good damage dealer as a bonus. One copy will suffice for sixty three cents.

Buttercup Mauler (Sneak Attacker)

One copy of Buttercup Mauler packs a punch. She deals two melee damage and has Sneak and Deflect abilities. Deflect is a great ability to counter against Thorns and Blast damage. She is an important card in rulesets like Briar Patch and Explosive Weaponry.

Virid Venomancer (Magic Attacker)

Virid Venomancer is a decent damage dealer. At level one, she deals two magic damage and will be one of the team's attacker. Due to her low health, it's necessary to place her in the rear or middle of the team. It's also advisable to team her up with a Taunt unit like Silverleaf Mage.

Fenmoor Woodtroll (Ranged Attacker)

The Fenmoor Woodtroll has a lot to offer at level one. It deals two ranged damage and has good defense against Sneak attackers. It has the Blind ability to increase the chances of enemy melee and range attackers to miss their targets. It also has the Wingbreak ability that targets flying units. It's an important ability in Earthquake rulesets.

This completes the Earth splinter units. Now let's look at the other units with elven bloodline. These units will have the Execute ability granted by the Earth archon.

Grove Doomblade

Grove Doomblade deals five melee damage at only level one. It also has decent defense of two armor and five health. It has the Sneak ability that allows it to attack at long range. It's only setback is its one speed but it can be an advantage in reverse speed rulesets.

Aranduriel

Araduriel is a Sneak attacker and good to combo with Grove Doomblade to wreck the enemy's backline. At leve one she deals three ranged damage, has four health and two speed.

Silverleaf Warlock (Speed Buffer)

We'll need a level two Silverleaf Warlock to have his Swiftness ability. It increases the team's speed by one and can help the slow units in the team like Grove Doomblade. He also deals two magic damage, has four health and three speed.

Arcane Skinwalker

A level two Arcane Skinwalker gains the Shapeshift ability. It allows him to benefit from the Bloodline Dominion buff granted by the archons. He's a bit expensive compared to the other units above so it's optional if you want to include him in your deck. He's very versatile though and an ideal unit in several rulesets.

That completes my recommended deck for a competitive team in Bronze League.

Summary

The goal of this post is have a cheap starting deck that can compete in Bronze League. The total cost of the deck we built was less than $12. It's decent enough to compete and covers most rulesets. There are other cards that can be added from the Frontier set like Ash Archer and Sorrow Harvester who are both elves. They are cheap if you haven't gotten them from rewards yet. There's also a cheap Taunt unit, New Beluroc Aegis and a self healing tank Dread Tafarian. If you have played in the Frontier and want to try Modern, here's a decent starting deck for you.
