You Can't Pour From An Empty Cup.

I think I've had to experience this a number of times. In as much as I'm the type to help and all of that, there are times I've had to turn people down, decline, and say no.

Mind you, it's not because I'm not caring or was less concerned. Something about me is I love to help, and it's one of the prayers I've been praying to God that I will be so comfortable and okay enough to be able to reach out and help any time and any day, but even with the very little that I have now, I'm doing my best. So, what I'm saying is, each time I say no and can't be of help, I'd feel bad in there.

There are lots of things I'm currently dealing with at the moment also, and if I'm always helping while putting mine on hold, be sure that I will have myself to blame later.

What I do at times, when I have things to do and sort too, is to ask them if they can manage with the little I am helping with, which won't be up to what they needed. Like, I just want to be able to help no matter how small. Other times, I'd feel I'm well connected and have someone I can connect them with that would help.

And when we are talking about helping, I understand that it may not always be finance-related; sometimes it might be just you being there to listen, to advise, to give directions, to guide, to encourage, and all of that.

One thing I've learned is that we shouldn't put ourselves in danger in the name of helping. Yeah, earlier this week, a friend of mine reached out to ask for a certain amount and asked if I could help with it, and in all honesty, I did have that amount with me. But I'm currently battling with my health too; I needed to run some tests, buy pills, get treatment, and all of that. What I have isn't enough to cater for everything. So, I politely said no. He felt bad, but then I have my health to take care of too. Should I put my health on hold? Of course not.

So, depending on whatever situation, when trying to be of help, make sure you're not putting yourself in danger. There are times that it is okay to explain to them why you can't be of help; if they are understanding enough, they will understand, and some don't actually deserve an explanation; just tell them you're sorry you can't be of help. If there's any advice, a person, or something else you can help them with or refer them to that can possibly be of help, then you can point them to it.
