Divine Shield VS Defense

Although they are completely different things, after all, Divine Shield is exclusively an ability while Armor is a card statistic that can also be enhanced with summoners or the Protect ability, both serve a similar function in Splinterlands: preventing damage dealt by the enemy from reaching your card's health.

There are several reasons that make Divine Shield much superior. Working against Magic Damage and not being pierced by Piercing or removed by abilities/rulesets like Armor and the Unprotected rule or the Rust ability are general summaries that show the numerous advantages this ability has.

With so many mentioned benefits, it is obvious that the summoner Lorna Shine is far superior to Tyrus Paladium simply because she performs the same function much better. However, there is another summoner who also gives armor to the whole team and offers more effects: Grandmaster Rathe. By also giving Void Armor to the whole team, he removes one of the disadvantages of armor compared to Divine Shield and also provides Amplify to increase the damage reflected by abilities.

If the right cards are chosen, these effects can create a devastating composition capable of eliminating opponents just with reflected damage, but we must remember that the protection of the cards is still subject to suffering against the previously mentioned counter abilities.

Battle.

In this battle, both summoners faced each other. Although I consider Grandmaster Rathe a great summoner, it was enough to place Clockwork Aide in the team for Rust to eliminate all the protection of the enemy team. Additionally, no card with Thorns was placed in the backline, not taking advantage of the amplified reflected damage. Meanwhile, my entire team was 100% protected with Divine Shield without much effort and without counter possibilities.

It's always good to have abilities available that don't require such elaborate strategies to work. Putting cards with Divine Shield in your team will always be beneficial regardless of the situation, and there are few occasions when this effect will be wasted (except for Redemption , which is the worst enemy of this ability 😅).

I believe that soon one of the new dual summoners will have the ability to distribute Divine Shield + another ability to two cards. There is nothing to support this thought, so it is purely speculation, but let's wait a few weeks and see if I am right in this prediction. Despite everything said in this post, do any of you prefer armor instead of Divine Shield ? If this is your opinion, share your arguments in the comments!

It was a battle of poison, but I think you had better melee cards and won the game.
