As you probably know I am always on the look out for bizarre coins and other monetary oddities, regardless if they are made of precious metals or not.
Why? They are just fun to own!
Here's one I discovered today that I found really interesting and I am definitely adding in my collection very soon since it is in the affordable category, starting from about 15 USD.
Meet the 2006, 1 $ coin by Cook Islands, issued to commemorate the 80 years of television:
What's really interesting about them is that the tv part of the coin comes with a multi color hologram that changes the screen image depending on the angle you look at it!
Stylized television showing a picture of John L. Baird and a ventriloquist's dummy named "Stooky Bill" source
Baird (and I guess his dummy Stooky π) was a pioneer in the field of television. He demonstrated the world's first live working television system on 26 January 1926 and also invented the first publicly demonstrated colour television system. Here's a link to Wikipedia if you want to learn more about him!
All in all, a fun piece to own π
Other than that, there's nothing else special about the coin. Just another Copper-nickel coin.
Ok hope you enjoyed learning about yet another monetary oddity with me!
Excuse me now, I have to leave to look for a place to order to order this piece. I'll let you know when I get one in my hands, which will hopefully be soon π

The coin looks beautiful
It is quite interesting to see that those type of coins actually exist
Iβm hearing this for the first time canβt lie.
Iβm also dumbfounded by it
Looking nice. I think its best way to celebrate 80 years of tv.
I never knew that a coin could exist in this form
It looks good though
The good thing is that these kinds of designs make people more interested because of them.
The coin is really looking so unique
