Hey lovelies ❤️
It's your favorite girl @debbie-ese 😍
Welcome to my blog 🤗

In this post, I will be sharing with you how I spent my day in the market to purchase some essential needs in my house over the weekend. The market experience is one of those moments that you think about for some time after yoyou are back home. This is closely tied to the weather condition, the heat was very discomforting but the market shopping itself was worthwhile.

As I was approaching the entrance of the market some fresh plantain caught my attention. They were so catchy due to the way it was neatly arranged by the footpath leading into the market. I actually have a favorite vendor inside the market but these ones immediately stole my heart as my eyes came in contact with them.

The prices varies depending on the size, so the two I choose was bought for #3000 each after a bit of back and forth. It was a good deal and it was worth the price. I asked the woman to keep the plantain for me to avoid carrying extra weight around the market. I will pick it up on my way out since her spot was close to the entrance/exit. That simple decision was important in preserving my energy.

From there I continued my trip inside the market to where tomatoes, pepper and onion are being sold. This is undoubtedly one of the busiest section of the market, from food business owners to people who buy for personal consumption. The tomatoes and peppers were red and fresh, the type that will make you a pretty pot of stew. More importantly the prices were relatively affordable.

A full basket of tomatoes was going for between #18,000 to #22,000 depending on how fresh it is and also your bargaining power. Though the price is noticeably higher than it was some weeks back. Just about two weeks ago the same basket was going between #14,000 to #16,000. And it is expected to go higher as the tomatoes season is gradually fading out.

Thankfully, I had bought half of a basket back then which I prepped, ground and stored in my freezer. The tomatoes should last for about two to three months, which would not make me feel the effects of the rising cost of tomatoes as well as the scarcity.
So, what I do before the scarcity begin is that I buy a little quantity that will serve me for some days before going to the market again. By so doing, i would not touch the one that I had preserved until the scarcity starts.

My next stop was the grain section. I needed to restock on beans and rice since I'm running out of the ones at home. For some months I have opted for local rice and it is an easy choice for me because it tastes better and the price is friendlier and the market sellers are generous when it comes to measurements.
The only slight challenge is that it takes longer time to wash because of the little stones that are in it. The mudu they use is bigger when compared to the one's use for foreign rice. So, I bought 10 mudu of rice and 5 of beans, which is enough to serve me for some time.

Like I noted at the beginning the sun was very harsh and draining. It made the market run a bit hectic because I was loosing so much strength. The details of the effects of the sun is visible in the images attached as you can see the shadows and brightness.

Well, despite all the intense heat caused by the sun I had a successful market run which is the most important goal.
